SPORTS RAP

It was my understanding that Chuck owns the rights to the name "Sports Rap".

Does this mean the midget who runs Citadel/LR pockets more money while spilling the blood of others?

Chuck may be angling toward the football announcers job if Mike Neil doesn't want to continue doing it. Chuck couldn't do football play-by-play and sports rap - it just wouldn't work. Note-He is still on the baseball broadcasts, or at least he was just this past Saturday.

i hear so many people talking about chuck taking over the football announcing duties....do you guys really think he would be that great? i'm sorry but i dont see it....he has one of the most annoying voices and personalities in all of radio....and dont start with the "why dont you do it" stuff....i know i cant do it...dont want to....

steve sullivan...scott inman...they would do well...class guys who dont think their opinion is the only one....

just my thoughts....i respect yours....i just dont agree if you think he is the guy

I just think that IF Mike Neil decides he doesn't want to do football next season, then Chuck MAY be getting himself ready to make that step. Maybe a deal has already been struck and Chuck is getting himself ready for it - lightning his load for a few months since he would have to give up Sports Rap anyway IF he got the job. One other note: My sources tell me that KARN didn't push Barrett out, he left on his own.

That would be correct. He wants to own his own show... make it his own production. That's all there is to it. The show will return next week on KFAY 1030 in NWA and KTTG 96.3 for the rest of West/SW Arkansas. I'm sure he is working on getting it on in other places as well.. That is the "entreprenural enterprise" referenced in the press release. Basically Chuck Barrett now owns his own sports network.

Here's an e-mail from Chuck to "Sports Rap" affiliates:

I know there has been much written and said regarding SportsRap, and because I value our relationship I want you to know what has really transpired.

I have desired for some time to own my own show. I made Jim Beard and Citadel aware of this long before my most recent two year contract expired 12/31/06. I offered a proposal that would have allowed ARN to continue to distribute the program to all the current affiliates, and provide exclusivity protection for both the network and the stations that currently carry the show. It was my goal from the beginning to work out an agreement with Citadel to continue what would obviously be a reworked partnership. I regret that we were not able to come to such an agreement.

I, along with our current regulars Clay Henry, Dudley Dawson, and Otis Kirk will begin airing a show that will also bear the name SportsRap, Monday April 30th. Citadel and I share joint ownership of the name SportsRap for a period of 12 months, after which sole ownership reverts back to me. CMB Sports Productions, LLC will be the new owner of the program.

I want you to know how much I value our relationship, and I wish things could have been resolved with Citadel. I want to make it clear I am not soliciting an affiliation with your station at this time, however as we expand our new network, it is my hope that somewhere down the line we can be partners again.

Respectfully yours,

Chuck Barrett
CMB Sports Productions, LLC

So is the fact that Media Mogul is doing Chuck's morning sportscast a permanant thing? The sportscasts actually sound pretty dang good! Mogul are you back at ARN (again)???

No... not back at ARN... Just helping out for a little while in the mornings until they get a more permanent setup which I suspect they will have Ray Tucker do the morning sports as well as the talk show.

I do the sportscasts from our studios in the River Valley...

So far it looks like Citadel (Beard and Gladner) and Barrett have only managed to screw each other. Citadel no longer has a decent show to market on ARN, and Barrett is back to hosting on a couple of minor stations in NWA.

Could someone contact Emily Post, the etiquette expert, and ask her which party is supposed to buy the K-Y in a situation like this?

I've kind of wondered if this talk that Chuck is in line for the UA announcing job was a factor in his negotiations with Citadel. If he "owned the show" and contracted with Citadel to carry it, I presume he could hire whoever he wanted to host it, freeing himself up to prepare to call Hog games.

let's hope that scott inman is the new hog footbal announcer and that chuck ends up back where his talent level belongs...on a couple of small stations...did you hear the baseball games this weekend...rick is head and sholuders better than chuck....my opinion...your views are always welcome and respected...but this is one thing i wont budge on...barrett is small time at best...let's pull for inman this time

Actually, I was kind of surprised. I had never heard Chuck do a baseball game, and the other day I was out with the family and found the SEC title game on the boombox, so I listened. All he did was kind of an animated scoreboard--here's the count, here's the score, this guy's up to bat. He didn't provide any color at all, no information about the players or vivid descriptions of the activity or anything.
