Sports returns to KTVK

Channel 3 has signed up with the new SEC Network produced by ESPN Regional Television. They will be carrying only the football package, however, not basketball. The network is being offered nationwide, not just in Southeast Conference territory.

We'll see how this works out at The Place With More Estrogen, given their emphasis on female-centric programming in recent years. I don't think they're carrying much of anything other than sponsored "Garden Guy" type stuff and infomercials on Saturdays anyway.

Is there really that much interest in the SEC here in Pac10land?

Football yes, basketball no. The SEC is the top college football conference in the country right now, so most fans will be interested even if there is no rooting interest in any team.

I should have been more specific.

My question was directed more at KTVK and asking whether they did any sort of survey to see what the potential audience for SEC football was. I know there are a lot of transplants living in the Valley now but compared to several other conferences (Big-10 comes readily to mind) it seems more from the Midwest than down South.

Is KTVK still planning on carrying the football portion of this network? We're a month and a half into college football season, and I don't recall seeing any games so far...

There's nothing on the KTVK site's schedule for next Saturday indicating a game then, either. The station is still on all the press releases for the OTA net, though.

They're carrying the South Carolina/Arkansas game right now. This is definitely a secondary SEC game; Channel 5 has LSU/Alabama this afternoon.
