Sports Satellite "dead" on Sunday?

Had to run out to the store Sunday just before 4:30pm. On my way, was swapping between 740am (Jag's post game), 1080am (NFL - Packers game) and 1300am WMEL (NASCAR). Got back in the car at 4:30pm sharp and 1080 and 1300 were both dead air. 740am still had the Jag's report ... checked 95.9fm which had ESPN. A few minutes later WMEL was playing Bob Seger's "Like a Rock" ... followed by more dead air. Checked in before 5pm and 1300am was back on NASCAR but 1080 was still silent. Anybody know what two distinct feeds at geographically seperated sports stations both blew out at the same time?

Sun outage on AMC-8 that lasted about 6 minutes. Wiped out the final 6 laps of the NASCAR AAA 400, came back on just in time as they were announcing the winners!

This was anticipated, Dial Global, CC, etc send out notices to affiliates a couple of weeks ago. A whole lot of programming is carried on AMC-8 which is why a lot of stuff went dark. My XDS receiver flipped to its back up internet connection so we had True Oldies Channel back on for the 6 minutes or so. Apparently the Wegner doesnt have such a facility, it was quiet.

In south FL, was trying to catch the Yankees/Tigers game on WMEN 640, but for a while, was only hearing some sort of Hot AC song....was this the same problem? Seemed to be around the same time...I was, like, what is thisssss?!?!

No doubt the same. The problem occurs at different areas across America at slightly different times as the sun passes right in the focal point of the dish. High noise level from the Sun overwhelms the signal from AMC-8. I walked outside during the event and lo and behold our dish was pointing right at the setting sun! It will happen a few more times in the next week. There is an online calculator where you can plug in your dish coordinates and the satellite of interest to get the times for your location but I cant put my finger on it right now. This happens in both the spring and fall.

Yep, it's sun outage season! I once worked as a weekend board op at a small AM that ran a sports network as fill when there were no college games to air. Since we had the memo stating when the outage would hit, I would record a segment from a previous hour on a reel and then replay it instead of the segment coming over the bird during the sun outage.

Sounds like u guys love nascar and sports and football go get Sirius/XM Radio OR if u have a I-Phone u can download the ESPN Radio App. Baseball on MLB on XM Radio (only). If u guys want it LOUD and CLEAR no staic.
