Sports Talk Ratings

Per the DMN today it seems ESPN is making headway against the Ticket. Perhaps the biggest surprise is that Galloway beat the Hardline in the all persons demo. I know it's not the Ticket's target - but is this the first signs of a crack in the armor?

Even the good P1 has had a tough time hanging with the Hardline lately.

The way I read the ratings, Ticket had a down book, ESPN had an up book. And while they made inroads 12+, the Ticket still about doubles them in M25-54.

Just my take, I have found "in demo" is a far better test...but, I think ESPN has been making small gains here and there, largely on the back of the Mavericks. 2 years now, The Ticket has had the Cowboys and they are out in the first round...makes it pretty tough to extend the listenership...

OK, but a couple of things:

Yeah, but count the basketball fans in this town versus the football fans. Baseball is America's pasttime but football is for today in this town.

THIS is a fact, and as the Ticket has been for almost a decade... as goes the Hardline, goes the little Ticket.

Lately, GAC has been talking more sports and Hardliners have been yukking it up trying to maintain its supremacy in the timeslot. Now, the moment KESN cracks wind on mornings and lunch, I'll look up and find Dorothy's house flying high. That won't happen talking NY Jets and Philadelphia 76ers in this market.

This new Hardline is in SERIOUS trouble if they can't even beat Galloway anymore.

Michael Irvin's been on a couple weeks now in middays. One thing I like about ESPN is the influx of national guys talking Cowboys. It's one thing for the Ticket to have Spagnola on there...But he's Jerry's boy and worse Cowboys homer than I am. But 103.3 has access to Werder, Ditka, Salisbury, and the like. I for one enjoy hearing these guys being a lil more candid than what they are on TV. And if you're listening to 103.3, chances are you want more real sports than "What's On My Tivo" anyway.

If you listen to the Mike Irvin Show for any length of time, you will miss What's On My Tivo immensely.

Mike Irvin will be canceled by December.

Methinks you're being generous, and besides he's due back on the tube come Fall. My, my. The Ticket has its P-1s, but this show is Painful in the 1st degree.

Odd isn't it?

Here we are pontificating how in the world Mike will make it past the dry, dead time of the NFL off-season after the draft, and lookie here. He may be back on TV by fall... whew, just in time. I was afraid some of national guests were going to include Jennie Finch, Kyle Busch, Jimmy Houston and Parker Bohn III.

Yeah, what was I thinking? Having qualified guests completely makes up for lack of host's sports acuity. On with the show! ;D

Maybe a little, but ESPN can't have a revolving door in those time slots and hope to gain anything on The Ticket.

I think Irvin is better than Norm and BAD radio. Just my two cents. He will be there for a long time. Give him some time. ESPN is sounding much better. Cowherd is a definite upgrade from Little BAll of Hate.

Um, lemme see if I got this right.

Ball o'hate sucked. That I give you, but to say TWO non-Dallas shows or Michael during the days of NO FOOTBALL is better than the Dean of stats and sports (Norm) is ridiculous? Then again, if I worked with KESN promotions, I would post that way as well. ;D ;D

Veritas,
With all due respect. I am not in radio, I buy radio. Dean of stats is old news and wears me out with constant selling of books, eating on the air and snorting of the nose.
BAD radio is something I am not a fan of. I liked Irvin on TV so I am going to give it a chance. He was funny on the Hardline a few years ago. I like The Herd also. These are personal opinions. I am giving my preference. Jen Engel wore me out.
I am a former P1 who finds himself listening to ESPN more than in the past.
Again, personal opinions, no more, no less.
I tuned out Norm AND Engel. Turned off both stations.

This new Hardline is in SERIOUS trouble if they can't even beat Galloway anymore.

It's my understanding that Galloway edged the Hardline in men 18+, but The Hardline remained number one in the target of men 25-54. And its men 25-54 numbers were as healthy as ever, even with the loss of Greggo. So I'm not so sure anyone can say the P1 has a problem with the current Hardline line-up. Not yet anyway.
