We're used to sports talk shows on commercial stations, but how about non-commercial stations doing sports talk? (I guess WBUR's Only A Game
qualifies). My own station, WMWM, has a show on Wed. (3-6 pm) called
College Guys Talking Sports. I've tuned in and it sounds similar to
the Big Show or just about any sports talk, really--Pats, Sox, etc.;
they break it up once in awhile by playing some music (usually blues).
We had a sports talk show years ago on WMWM, "Time out for Sports" which
aired Sundays from 6-7 pm, following by local music ("The Neighborhoods"
with Kathy Doyle) and then yours truly doing alternative from 9-midnight.
A guy who worked at the Salem State print shop, Fred Gaudreault, was one of the hosts and I think the rest were either SSC students or outsiders. Lasted for
a year or two.
Other college/non-comm. stations doing their best to breed talent for commercial
sports talkers?
