Sports to FM in Ft Myers and Naples.

Per Radio Insight WWCN better known as ESPN770AM in the Ft Myers/Naples market is adding three FM translators. They are 98.1 in Ft Myers, 101.5 in Bonita Springs and 105.1 in Naples. There is no start date listed right now but it appears it will be soon. The move of sports talk to FM marches on.

Whoop-de-damn-do...

There was sports on FM in Naples back in the mid 90's. The old Sporting News Radio.

Maybe WWCN will turn that stupid IBOC off?

LOL! This trend to putting these mainstream formats on various low power translators, all on different frequencies, IMHO, DOES NOT serve the public interest or convenience! It seems confusing. Most of these facilities can be heard well only a few miles from the transmitters. I just don't like the trend. Hey, maybe if they were all independently programmed, they could be neighborhood radio. The Sanibel Island Powerhouse! :D

I don't care for it, either.

You can only flood the airwaves with so many transmitters before it becomes the millenium version of CB radio - and useless!

Listeners in their homes may listen to translators, but I don't think listeners in their cars will be willing to keep changing frequencies as they drive across town.

I'm afraid this is escaping my memory. What station was that?

I don't care for the idea of sports going on all these low power transmitters either. It does nothing to serve the community in my opinion. I did try to listen to the 101.5 frequency this afternoon while out driving around in the north part of Collier County. It was not coming in well at all. Not sure just what this will do for ESPN770 other than to say they are on FM.

Wait for tropo. I was listening to Reach-FM on a 94.5 translator in Pinellas County. Underneath was the Schnitt Show. Knowing that 970WFLA is planning to use the 94.5 translator, I assumed they were testing it at the same time as Reach-FM was on the air. It turned out to be the 94.5 WFLF-FM from Panama City. Tropo was not affecting any of the bigger boys.
