Sportsnet and CBC announced Tue 6/16 that the new 12-year NHL contract beginning in the fall will not include simulcasts of Saturday night and playoff games on CBC television.
CBC had carried NHL telecasts since it went on the air in 1952, and on radio since the CBC was formed in the early 1930s. "Hockey Night in Canada" actually pre-dates CBC, going back to the days of CNR Radio, owned by the Canadian National Railroad.
Sportsnet licensed games to CBC and received rights to use the "Hockey Night in Canada" name and logo for better reach for its advertisers. That will no longer be the case, so Sportsnet's ad sales department will have to work hard to stay in the black with the rights fee ($933 million annually) jumping.
The name "Hockey Night in Canada" was not mentioned in the announcement. It presumably stays with CBC, which could use it for any hockey broadcast it carries.
