The details, and the whereabouts of The Mountain's former night jock Brad Dolbeer, are in this week's edition of Bill Virgin's RADIO BEAT:

Ah yes, the Huskies. This will be great for college ball fans, but honestly, how well do you think the Sonics will do at KTTH? Will it be a ratings shot like KOMO gets each mariners season and nothing more?

Baskeball on radio is a tough listen - unlike baseball. Even with great talent like Kevin Callabro (spelling?) it is seldom you see more than half a point (12+) share jump from Pro Basketball even during playoffs. Additionally TV dilutes the big games and the other games don't drive as much interest.

Where basketball DOES work is as a packaged sports marketing program for clients. But as the rights costs have gone thru the ceiling the real profit has evaporated. When KOMO last had the Huskies, word on the street was that they worked their butts off to "lose only $600,000 per year". You'll notice they didn't try very hard to retain the Dawgs.
