Spotify tells Nielsen "don't include DMA streaming data" in its music products

Spotify has told Nielsen not to include market based data in its streaming data.

Of course, Nielsen operates Nielsen BDS, so that means that data many stations use to see local interest in streaming will be unavailable for Spotify.

They will continue to tabulate DMA data for other streaming providers. And national data will continue to include Spotify.

That removes a valuable resource local programmers had in looking for local trends. It is, in my mind, a further indication that we are headed to national sources, not local ones.

If I had to guess, Spotify will try to charge the record labels and/or radio conglomertes for access to its data.
