Spreading the word out faster?

Now, I've been doing internet radio for nearly 4 years, and yes I know I just recently re-launched 967party.com a week ago, but I notice some other streams that start out right off and within a month, their listeners slots are through the roof, and some takes gradualy to get to the top. I'm just curious on how those other stations seem to grow so many listeners within a short period of time? Granted, I do take my station out to the streets, hand out flyers, bumper stickers, make club appearances, but my highest peak reached at 2,000 presets, meanwhile other stations would have about 10,000-25,000 presets. My question is what does it take to reach the 10,000 mark, or should I just not worry about the others?

If you get your station listed on iTunes and/or listed with Windows Media Player, you will likely see a big jump in listeners. Other than that, word of mouth and social networking like Twitter, and Facebook are good for promoting as well.

I couldnt get enough listeners to make it worthwhile on ustream.. I dont know whaT TO tell you, sounds like your doing everything you can. You dont want to grow to big too fast us know.

That's what one side of me is thinking, that I shouldn't worry about growing too fast, which means I would have to do things 3x faster. Besides, I still have plenty of time to Memorial Day weekend when everyone packs the Jersey Shore :D

I agree with not worrying about what others do, but I totally think you should grow as fast as you can. You'll either "make it" or you won't, regardless whether you hit that mark in a day or a year. And wouldn't you rather see what works as quick as possible as to now "waste time"?

Our station (WBXO.com) is listed on Itunes and last month alone we had over 175,000 hits. average listeners per hour: 100 which effectively causes the server to max out.

I guess it's an issue with Live365. I don't know if this is a fluke, but last friday I had over 700 streams launched, and this past tuesday with nearly 600 streams launched but all within under a minute. I'm not sure if it's the personal package I'm using that requires people to login or what. At least I know that my message is out there, now to make this stream more better via clicking to listen.

When STAR1079.com was on LIVE365, it got to a point where the station was featured every other Monday on their main web page. On those days it was maxed out for a solid 12 hours from 3am Eastern til 3pm Eastern. Apparently the next 12 hours of that day belonged to another top 10 stations.

Of course now that we are no longer on LIVE365, we go well beyond the max limit we had back then on a regular basis.

I really like Star 107.9, if your the columbus 80s channel,, but I never see that many listeners on shoutcast for you, compared to the big dog 80s channels like .977. Are you perhaps having more hits on WMP?????

We are that 80s station, STAR 107.9 based in the Columbus Ohio area. The reason .977 has a larger audience is because they have been on shoutcast longer, and because of their name ".977" they are listed at the beginning of the shoutcast directory listings. We have two shoutcast servers, one is just a token server for those who can't get beyond a firewall at work, while the other is the one listed on iTunes. The only advertising we've done is by word of mouth, so that might also be a factor in our lower listener base.

Now that flyers and bumper stickers are on a ridiculous sale, now is the time to take advantage and do it all again ;D BTW, I am getting more listeners in slowly, and summer is coming closer. Can't wait to attract more listeners coming "down the shore." 8)

The fastest way to get people to your station is iTunes and by getting special features with some artists. Artists have fans and when you feature them, their fans will start to tune in.
