Please post ASAP. Mr. Mills would like to point out how wrong 99x was in letting go the incredibly talented Fred Toucher and Crash I am such a whiner, developmentally stunted Fred Toucher. Hold on to your hat Joey the numbers might not be as impressive as you speculate,

No I don't care about 99x's numbers. I wish them well. DAVE on the other hand is what I would like to see. RTibbs take some valium baby.

I heard that in his early days, Fred Toucher would go by the first name Kidd.

Oh yeah I forgot your main purpose in life is to bring Fred toucher and company to the Dave FM airwaves after you successfully have it converted to Free FM. Toucher needs to straighten out his Boston show first before he branches out. My guess is the Boston audience won't take so greatly to sharing a show with Atlantas. they are not going to want the Atlanta lowdown. Your best bet is to hope Dave FM hangs on for a few more books and if Toucher doesn't hit a homer up there maybe they all come back here as the 92.9 morning show.

My purpose for caring is Atlanta lacks quality entertainment. Opie and Anthony coming to Atlanta is the first step, my freaked out friend. Sit back, relax and don't worry about what I am doing.

I just took a look at ZGC's numbers.

Eeeeeeeeh.....ooooooooohhh.....yeeeeech.

Barnes must have pictures of Joel Hollander to be able to keep that morning drive slot like this. Dave is becoming the new Jamz.

Dave was beaten by Gwinnett's old Lake 102. That's incredible.

It is so sad to see a once dominant FM station that the rest of the country looked to for their cues as far as music, presentation and promotions is now a punch line. If the powers that be don't get rid of the PD and one of the most uninteresting, uneducated, uninformed, self serving, ego driving, no talent morning shows that has ever been heard in this or any other top 100 market then if you have any, you should start unloading your CBS stock as quickly as possibly.... not that I'm bitter

Z93 was once dominant? Other stations "took their cues" from Z93? That frequency has been haunted since Gary McKee nearly froze to death on a billboard in 1998. Let's not forget that the morning show before BarnFirf consisted of the mid-day jock and a part-timer. The morning show host before them was maimed by a lion. The morning show before him was a part-timer. Not exactly dominant.

I do agree that the morning show is the issue. The format and music is excellent IMHO. Love Mara. Love Margot.

You've not been hear very long have you......I'm talking about the JohnYoung era... McCoy, Randy Reeves, Lindsey, et etc, etc.

I've got my "Ross & WIlson" airchecks in the closet, Malibu :) Didn't know we were going that far back! As a matter of fact, i've got a killer John Young voiced promo on the subject of "Melissa Manchester headlines Toys for Tots presented by Treasure Island!"

My name is John Young and I wanted to thank you both the nice words. I didn't know anybody remembered the Z93 that literally had double digits arbitron numbers for 2 decades. And it wasn't due to the fact we had no competition. My friend Don Benson at 94Q ran an incredible station with Gary McKee doing mornings, and it wasn't til I found Steve McCoy and moved him to Atlanta that we had strength in morning numbers. Thank you for remembering and acknowledging people like Lindsey (not her real name, but it is my daughters name..that's where it came from) randy reeves, ross and wilson, dale o'brien etc who helped make it a magic and meaningful time for radio listeners. We benefited from great music. And this city and region led the country in music trends thru the help of a great music retailer, Turtles, with over 100 stores in our area run by Al Levinson and Joe Martin. I would literally put a cut on Friday night..tell Turtles we were doing it and ask Joe to pull apart sales figures for me on monday, and after a weekend of unexpected and frequent play, i'd know on Monday afternoon if the song would be a hit. No consultants, no second doubts. I knew the city and knew my audience as well as my family. And that audience was passionately involved with radio and Z93 as a key part of their life. . I deeply regret that the general feeling of many of these posts reflects the general feeling of a lot of radio listeners..."whatever" ... like there's something really missing. And there is definitely something missing. But it's not my place to judge or criticize as i know the people running stations are doing the best they know, living under restrains and corporate rules i didn't have to live with, and i would pretend that I could do the job any better than them. But thank you for remembering that Z93 really truly led the way in this town for years. I worked 7 days a week hoping it would make a difference and I am grateful that some people remember and defended is on this post.

all the best

25 years ago Z93 was THE top 40 station in town. I remember when the Nina song 99 Red Baloons came out they actually modified a version that added "Z93 red baloons" on one of the verses. I don't think DaveFM could get away with modifying a song like that nowadays but it goes to show how big Z93 once was. So what happened? Even when 93 played the classic rock format the River plays now they were still at the same small share they've been at for 10 or 15 years. Why?

Thats a good question. The River's music list is virtually identical to Z93's 1989-1997. So why has 92.9 been cursed? They tried syndicated big names like Greaseman. They tried local names like Gary McKee, Moby, Kaedy Kiely and Barnes. They've gone with loopy jocks like Mara and they've gone for music-nostalgia jocks like Bob Bailey. It's not like they haven't tried. It would be easy to say that dinosaur classic rock is a bad format, but its not been bad for the River, has it?

My only theory? Low clutter on River. Short breaks and not a lot of crap.

Dear John Young
The sentiments are heartfelt... Those days were the most exciting I have ever expericence in 30 odd years of radio. I truly miss working with you, Maple, Lindsey, Randy, McCoy,Mary Glen, Scott Evans not to mention ez money. Looking back it's amazing how "Atlanta's Hit Radio Station" made such a huge impact from that cramped little studio... much of the credit does have to go to you.

be well C.H.

charles is that you? i don't know the code names...my first day on this site. but if it's you, you were one of the most dependable, solid pros we had. i never had to worry about the staff...it was such a thrill to be able to offer someone like a job..then just home and know they were so thrilled to have it, that they threw every ounce of their talent into, and gave far more than we paid. we didn't have all the tools and money that wqxi-fm ..94 q but we didn't care...the thrill was getting a 4 day advance on an unreleased fleetwood mac or eagles release and play it every 2 hours...we were a living breathing enthusiasm machine delivering the goods. people in the business now think we're making this stuff up.. not true. i was in chicago recently and tracked down john gehron who did the best job of running wls.. we talked about our days, and rick sklar at wabc and how we'd all stay in touch...and the mystery of all this is, we didn't think it was a big deal. it was our job. it was our obligation to be better today than we were yesterday. if we didn't get what we thought we needed from management, we just went ahead and used our brains to create something...our job was a lot like the fed ex drivers ( and you'll remember i'd hang around the fed ex terminals to study their methods )...you don't sit and complain because the freight came in late due to bad weather...you load your truck and get it delivered. too many people in radio today seem inconvenienced. but i think the guys that love it still love it.. you look at mccoy..great job every day.. you look at scott slade who was a master at ways in charlotte...dead on the money every morning on wsb am. these solid as a rock guys just do what we did and still do...be dependable. i serve 31 tv stations..many would say it's monotonous...it's fun to me...but attitude is everything. what i'm seeing on this website is a lot of people who know in their heart it could be better and can't figure out why it has become adequate ...to which i can only say all of us have blind spots. from kroger to mcdonalds we get too close to our product and don't see it as the customer, or listener does any more...what puzzles me about this site is passion so many people have about the product called radio and they're so disappointed as users and they're not getting what they hoped for. this passion won't last forever. the connection and relationship as a listener to the product disconnecting for many here on this site and like a marriage slowly dying many will leave this site in a year or two and be aggrivated that nothing got better...and they won't understand why ..they'll just have memories of wabc..wls..and (what an honor to be in that company.).z93 and 94 q

maybe we can learn something of observing all this frustration.
i've just survived listening to needs and delivering on them...l...and keeping ones ego out of the picture usually means a clear course to a solved problem.
how do you talk to a customer service desk that's closed. i'm not sure today's radio is hearing these conversations...
