Why is Ottawa/Gatineau (4th largest market in Canada) not a ppm market yet?

Speaking of Ottawa, I'm surprised to see Majic 100 had its worst book ever with a 10th place 4.5 share. Long gone are the always #1 or #2 days. Even CBC radio 2 is beating them (although by only 0.05 share points. 4.51 vs 4.46) I'm sure they're still doing well F25-54. Not coincidentally, Jewel 98.5 is up this book... I hear it more in offices now that they got rid of the standards on the playlist and regulated them to their 7pm lounge show. Jewel is pretty much a gold based AC now from what I hear, and the mix during the day has been pretty good. And it's nice to hear pre 80's hits on the radio again. Majic seems to have all but obliterated them from their playlist.
 
Going by the percentages, nearly 6% listen to Radio 2 in Ottawa (and that figure keeps rising), while only 1.5% (and holding) do in Toronto? What kind of dynamics cause this type of difference in the numbers? BBM vs PPM information collecting methods? Maybe Radio 2 has attracted some disgruntled Majic listeners in Ottawa...:p

Another interesting thing I noticed about the Ottawa Anglo market is how much CFRA has dropped in the ratings over the past year. CIWW, a.k.a. 1310 News has picked up a little, but it looks like most of CFRA's drop has gone to CBC Radio One. I remember when CFRA was the undisputed market leader just a few years ago.

Also of note, down in London, CKSL's ratings have been cut in half since flipping from Oldies 1410 to Funny 1410. The only person I knew that listened to CKSL under its previous format (my father) is among their former listeners.

CFRA dropped Michael Harris who was their only non conservative host. The station leans so hard right now that your only options are radio one or Montreal's CJAD. Harris was the only reason I tuned into the station and now that he's gone, it's CIWW and CJAD all afterno0n for me.

I agree about Harris. I used to think he was quite conservative when he was outspoken against the Chretien gang back then... but as it turns out, he has put parties of all political stripes in the hot seat... which in my mind has made him very credible and non-partisan... I definitely miss him on the radio... a true fair and balanced host, imo...

When you call yourself EZ Rock and you have Nicki Minaj, Pitbull and David Guetta in the same set, well, you can see the problem...

I could certainly buy that -- but then, why is Premiere Chaine listed in Sherbrooke, isn't that just a transmitter of CBF Montreal?

w9wi.....despite its CBF-10 calls which make it appear to be nothing more than a repeater of CBF 95.1 Montreal there is some local programming on Premiere Chaine Sherbrooke. The same situation applies to CBF-8 96.5 in Trois Rivieres.

That is a station that Astral has seriously mismanaged. It was doing just fine the way it was back in 2008. The fact that they are now getting beaten by a spill station in Tillsonburg is pretty sad.

They're trying to compete with Fresh 103.1, which attracts a different demographic than the former format of 97.5. Not only did they alienate their existing listeners who flocked to CKOT Tillonsburg, but there is no way they're going to attract loyal listeners of 103.1, who from my experience also tend to listen to Fanshawe's 106.9 The X.

It's time to flip 97.5 over to Boom, as was done in Toronto and Ottawa.
