Spring 2012 Person 12+

Persons 12+ can be deceptive, but there's plenty to write about here. WBEN is up. How much of the increase is due to 107.7 is unknown. Impressive books for 97 Rock and WHTT, regardless of the age of the core audience. In the AC battle, Star had an impressive uptick, while Joy is off from Winter '12 and substantially down from Spring '11. WYRK continues to be the beacon on the tower. Due to Arbitron policy, stations that don't subscribe are not reported, soit's anybody's guess at to which way the Breeze is blowing. Then again, it's Persons 12+. Have at it.

I makes me wonder how WJYE feels about their "music adjustment" about a year ago. They essential took over the music position abandoned by WHTT when they went to Classic Hits. Now they're caught in a squeeze between WHTT's upper demos, and the Star/Kiss combo in the lower demos.

Looks like WJYE is in free fall; WHTT is rebounding nicely, probably with a lot of 35-54 tune-in; and WBEN is still marking time, while the Entercom cluster as a whole seems to have gained little or nothing from the WLKK flip to a WBEN simulcast except in the Rochester market, where they may have cut a little into WHAM's gradually shrinking audience (although how they'll monetize that is hard to see).

Yeah. Some bad decisions regarding this station has been made over the past year. Whoever decided to do what they're doing has some explaining to do.

Remember, these are 12+ numbers. The demos may tell a very different story. WJYE may be happy giving up older numbers and may have a smaller, but more sellable piece of the audience. Star has had unimpressive 12+ numbers in the past, but owned a very sellable chunk of women 35-44.

WHTT looks good 12+, but you're guessing on the demo. And being generous. 35-54? 35 year olds don't listen to 40 year old music. The station may show well 35-64 because reps say it's strength is 55-64, with a dash of 45-49 and a helping of 50-54. In Buffalo, 50-64 is just fine because it can be turned into revenue. At least for a few years. You want Persons 25-54, you buy WYRK and Star for the Women.

Or you combo Star and Kiss for women, since Kiss may be more of a Hot AC during the day...
