Spring 2013 GSP ratings

Spring 2013 ratings are out for GSP. Not a lot of huge changes. But both MY and Magic are up. B93.7 down. And both WROQ and Chuck are down -- maybe partly due to Earth, but also a surprising bump for The Road. If I'm not mistaken isn't that possibly the worst book for ROQ in a long time?

The other newer station, X98.5, is up slightly to 1.2 so at least heading in the right direction (close to Chuck's 1.3 on lower wattage signal so that's probably good news for X fans).

MY is still well below where they used to be as AC. B-93.7's numbers are bad, but if you listen, it's really no surprise.

I don't think Earth could have that much of an impact on Rock 101 or Chuck FM. Their music is overall quite older than those stations'. They play so much 60s music.

ROQ, I never listen to so I can't really offer any insight on any changes they might have made. Chuck FM has lost an entire point in recent books. I think they've just gotten stale. After you listen for a while, you realize that they don't really play "everything" and the burned out 80s rock tracks just get old. X will always get around a 1-1.5 share.

The Road is certainly interesting...maybe they're hurting Rock 101?

Yes, WROQ's drop and The Road's increase to me is the biggest story here. I mean, corrected if I'm wrong, but I remember ROQ routinely falling I'm the top 4 and occasionally swapping places with one of the country stations about 10 years ago. And now it's down to a 4.2? Not a good story there.

As far as X, they haven't made huge jumps but over it's first three books have gone from a .9 to 1.1 to 1.2, with the Spring being when they had even more interference problems on sunny morning drives. With those issues, it's at least showing it isn't going south and is doing well enough to continue to survive IMO. I tuned out a lot in the Spring due to bad reception in the morning so it is a significant issue.

Y'all are reacting to 12+ numbers, though... bear in mind each station and format has a target demo, and so "success" isn't necessarily defined by a 12+ ranking.

Magic tops My in every demo, including W18-34. Nothing in here to make My's switch to
Hot AC look any smarter.

I'm more referring to the armchair pundits bemoaning 'FBC's book. It's my understanding they're actually quite pleased with their numbers.

And it's been over 2 years now. How are they staying on the air? The same idiot(s) are getting to run the show that ran the AC format in to the ground and then made this boneheaded decision to Hot AC lite. It's clearly been a non-starter.

That is bad for Rock 101. They've been in the 4-5 range before, but that's pretty bad. The Road has obviously made inroads (pun not intended). I'm guessing the USC sports help attract listeners who stick around and then hear the classic rock format. It's already doing better than that Shine debacle. I'm no classic rock expert, so I don't know what they're doing wrong. The Road has a less southern/country flavor to their playlist, and has a tighter library. That COULDN'T help them. ;) ;)

If someone could get us that other information, we might be able to comment more intelligently.

12+ may not sell ads but in my long experience looking at Arbitrons, it's a rare instance where the 12+ goes in one direction and the 25-54 in another direction. I'm sure there are some some examples but when I was in the biz, as soon as I saw the 12+, I knew if it was a good book or a bad one.
