Spring Book Surprises

Thanks for the Mr. Goodwill update! Remember that theme distinctively...big band at its best! Used to record it on my 3" r to r machine when I was a kid..play it and make like I was Mr. Goodwill...all I had was a crisp PENNY...and the neighbors played along when I called. They figured one day this dork would actually get a radio job and be out of their hair!!

One day my Mom and I were walking thru downtown Wilmington (early 60s) and WDEL and Harvey were doing a live broadcast from a store window...people had gathered...Mom, spunky as she was, pulled out a WAMS Top 40 survey we'd gotten at Wilmington Dry Goods...held it up to the window. Harvey was gracious, but not amused! Even I, at about 11 yrs old, knew that was a diss!! The survey had Willie Gaylord, Roger Holmes, Dean Tyler, Lee Davis and Dave Eldridge as the lineup...not sure they were 24 hours at the time!

WAMS signed-off at 1am in those days. And no, Mr. Smith would NOT be amused!
