Well....i'm a longtime lover of new england talk radio, and being in my present situation....I see interesting stuff...your thoughts? A couple of my observations...

-trending downward...again....WFLF (W-Fluff) & WTKS (Real Radio) Middle
month...I told ya! why?

-Dr Laura (WFLF) is getting dumped. A friend at Cox says they are shopping her,
but, ...Cox is not interested...not without Rush (and then..
WDBO says..."screw me once..." to Premiere. Gallagher, was
dumped by WDBO a few years ago. looks like the PD at FLUFF
is in a heap o-trouble!

-Bud Hedinger(WFLF) has a temp. reprieve (though his trend is spiraling down to
lowest in history for local talk) CC management is said
to be "very disappointed" while shopping
with TRN and others, now for talent...)

- WTKS..............The only show that is demonstrating numbers is Philips!
Monsters are a flop in the mornings (maybe, if they can only
hold on until Stern is gone) they need Mancow in the morning
Monsters back in the midday...Dump the chameleon named
Burke...and give Philips a longterm 3-7 contract (and Jim,
Fire your staff and go solo...it was better back then!!!)

- WDBO.............got in trouble recently for playing Michael Savage
after Orlando Magic Games. They have been forced into
airing Doyle who was going to WFLF until I blew the whistle)
(Why was Doyle also heard on 1190 during transition? (weird
that Cox would put up with that (BLEEP))

- Your opinion...you can wait until the "hourlies", or rather comment on the
dog-n-pony show 12-plus numbers....weird book, eh?

Kirkie

pls. get your facts straight kirk. Hedinger just had one of the best books in pm drive on WFLF, up over 30% overall, winter to spring book. where do you get your info? it's bad.

its really tough making any kind of comments about true performance with 12+ numbers since they are really only good for bragging rights, and not a reflection of a station's success within their target.

i'm not quite sure why pre-empting savage for magic games would be much of a mistake for WDBO, since share points after 7pm isn't as significant. Since the actual number of persons, the ratings points, is so incredibly low at that time, there is only so much an advertiser is willing to spend in the post 7pm dayparts. a high share but a low rating equals low revenue, might as well go for the sure thing, the ability to sell sports, regardless of ratings/share. if you have additional insight into the magic/savage issue, please share it!

i would be interested in learning more of the break outs for mornings, mid-days and afternoons in orlando. i know that the monsters did beat stern in either adults or men 25-54 recently, but i don't know if that was just a trend or the winter book. i would love to know how hannity fares against philips, and how neal boortz does in general.

anyone willing to share in such a way that the radio-info rules regarding the posting of arb figures ins't violated, please do. i think when providing break outs, saying joe beat john mid-days is okay, as long as rank or numbers aren't included.

The only things I can stand on the 'Fluff are Bud and the news. If CC management disapproves of live & local talk in afternoon drive, and would prefer to ship in a syndicated voice.. Wow. I'm not one to use the Cheap Channel phrase but c'mon. That guy got me through the stinking hurricanes!

It's a TROLL folks...

FLF just had their best book since changing formats in 2001. The only possible purpose of the original post was to troll.

Well, I guess even a blind squirrel can find something to try to grasp on to!

Look at the monthlies my friend...from 2.0-to-8.0-then-back-to-0.7 ...look at the TSL, and Cume trend....and you tell me this, their so called 'best book' has any meaning. The trending for FLUFF is again downward. There's no denying it, and there's no denying in "talk radio circles" that CC management is not happy at all!

Try to dress up a right-wing pig, and you still end up with a extremist-sow! (or, something like that)

Dude... where are you getting your info from? Or do you work for Cox Radio's marketing department and feel the need to spin?

12+ WFLF went up from Winter to Spring.. a 2.5 to 3.6...

Yes, WDBO still has a higher 12+ number.. but WFLF beat WDBO in Men 35-54 over all.. and in mornings, where they beat them also in Men 18-49. That's two books in a row that Pat Campell outdid Jim Turner.

WDBO can have the 12+.. The sales department and advertisers care about those two specific demos, especially in the News/Talk format.

And if you don't think WDBO is scared.. why are they about to make a big change on the air?

Oh and one more thing... since you work for Cox, you obviosly don't know what CC Management is thinking.. CC suits are happy and optimistic about this.

With all due respect...you should get a hold on reality. WFLF's numbers are all from TSL. Very low cume. And when you toss out their one fluke-month for the next book, you head back down hill (as is happening now) Also, the book shows no such thing of pat campbell beating anyone, let alone Turner. He has less than half the cume in all demos as DBO (unless you're going for the really old farts 70plus) Even Rush got beaten like a red-headed stepchild (in the 12plus,25-54,and 35-64) (not to mention the subgroups) Hannity slammed Bud H. (one good month doesn't make it newsstud) in all demo groups...only TSL is up. No, i can understand your defensiveness, newsbub, but comon, quit smoking dope and get real...the numbers don't lie. The "we're getting better" is stale, and old....try something new.

BTW: Can't wait to see what changes you're talking about at WDBO...no one has any info on it, wanna share? WDBO just fired CNN radio for being to liberally-slanted...anyone know where WFLF is going to go? Fox, still CBS-left wing, or ?

Where I work is not important, suffice to say I've been in network talk for 22 years. One station in a medium market is small-time,NewsCub! We talk to all of em! have been for a long time. Whatever, believe what you want ,but the folks at DBO are still in a "war mode" ever since WFlf came into existence. Good luck FLUFF-stud you'll continue to need it.

You guys really gotta lay off the caffeine.

troll = bad info again

WDBO has been an ABC News affiliate for years. CNN is on another AM down there.

Re: It's a TROLL folks...

"No, i can understand your defensiveness, newsbub, but comon, quit smoking dope and get real...the numbers don't lie. The "we're getting better" is stale, and old....try something new."

Never smoked it... and you really outta look at the numbers again pal. Nobody said WFLF pounded WDBO into nothingness. WFLF has been trending up and had some good books. Doing much better tha WDBO ever anticipitaed...

This format takes a while to grow, in a any city. This isn't CHR or Country where people turn over to hear what song is playing while their current station is playing a song they don't like (hence driving up cume).

"BTW: Can't wait to see what changes you're talking about at WDBO...no one has any info on it, wanna share? WDBO just fired CNN radio for being to liberally-slanted...anyone know where WFLF is going to go? Fox, still CBS-left wing, or ?"

WDBO is about to make a change to it's local content in PM Drive. Oh, and see another post of mine below about WDBO and ABC/CNN. I defended you there.

As for WFLF's metwork affiliation.. As a CC station, they're going Fox once their CBS deal expires. Not a secret. It's a corporate-mandated thing. They're paying cash for Fox in lieu of running an excessive amount of weekly inventory.

"network talk for 22 years. One station in a medium market is small-time,NewsCub!"

We probably know each other then. I'm not from Orlando. Came down for a smaller-lifestyle from a bigger market for a while. And its market rating is a single digit. And I left by choice.

"but the folks at DBO are still in a "war mode" ever since WFlf came into existence. Good luck FLUFF-stud you'll continue to need it."

As they should be. Heard one of the reasons their PD was canned was becuase he wasn't in war mode. Don't know that for a fact however, just conjecture and rumour.

Re: troll = bad info again

Sorry... but up until recently WDBO had affiliations with ABC and CNN. Not sure the reasons why but CNN was dropped not too long ago. Not that they used CNN material much anyway.

Re: troll = bad info again

I think that was the earlier point. wdbo almost never used CNN, they may have had access but saying CNN content is too liberal so they dropped them makes no sense if they didn't use them for content. CNN has been on 840am for a while, not sure where they're bcasting from

Re: troll = bad info again

i agree, i doubt WDBO dropped CNN due to the so-called liberal content... i used to hear several CNN reporters provide live interviews from iraq/afghanistan/etc with Jim Turner in the morning, but outside of the morning show, i don't think the CNN service was used that much. I suspect that the reason it was dropped is that WDBO can get more value out of the revenue generated from time sold locally than for the CNN spots that must run if you take the service. It was probably bartered at a cheap per unit rate , so it was an easy decision to drop CNN when they already have ABC... another so-called liberal network

Re: It's a TROLL folks...

Agreed. This is the same "Kirk" who said Glenn Beck and Bud Hedinger were on the way out on 540.

He's still reliable. Read his posts, and expect the opposite.
