Spring Book

It comes out a week from tomorrow - any predictions? Here's mine:

KBRJ and KASH fairly consistent - these two are always jockying for position it seems, KBRJ sounds pretty good these days - perhaps the tide has turned in their favor, or it could just be a bad country book! You won't see the fall out in this book, but Goat's recent departure from KASH's morning show can only benefit Jim, Matt and Trill - at least for now.

I'm fairly confident KXLW will be flat, or up very slightly - 1.7 12+ is my guess, they'll get a fair amount of cume - but turnover will be high. I'll be on here to admit I'm wrong if I end up being so as I've been pretty critical of the new format. What can I say - I was an X-Rock fan!

KFAT and KGOT will likely lose a fair amount of their upper end to Movin', who knows how long that will last though. I hear Movin' on in too many businesses, they've obviously got at least some of the market's attention - they've got to try harder to keep them though if that format will continue to be viable.

Bob-FM - flat
Buzz - I think they got kissed a little by diary placement this last book, #2 in ranker? I'd be very surprised if they held their ground.

Magic - Marcus and April were a huge draw, I think they've failed miserably to maintain the momentum with Mark and April and the airstaff is terrible outside morning drive - we shall see - I don't claim to know much about mainstream A/C!

Mix - On that note, KMXS saw the departure of their PD and longtime morning co-host Roxi Lennox at the end of the book. It seems that KMXS and KYMG are on equal ground for the first time in a long while, both trying to develop new morning shows - that incidently include one half of the old show. While KYMG has Mark and April, Mix now has Devan Mitchell and Alice Welling - of Fly By Night Club fame, and Devan is the new PD. With this new morning pairing and Devan's knowledge of the market, I see Mix gaining some serious ground on Magic in books to come, flat for this book though.

KOOL - lost Cary Carrigan to TATI broadcasting, Dave Stroh moves to mornings and Mike Ford came back from KMBQ for middays - good things for KEAG, maybe up a bit? KEAG's usually holds its own, one of the better stations in the market.

KWHL - three words: Bob and Mark....they'll dominate as usual.

KBFX - here's the wild card, do Woody and Wilcox go up/down or stay flat after the native woman flap? I wonder - even if more people checked them out because of this, would they admit to it in their diary? :D

KZND - I think they had a soft book, they're not KWHL, but they have a loyal following - Rowdy and JJ is just brutal, however.

KFQD - Mark Colavecchio show is great, Dan Fagan continues to piss folks off, volatile political year - I think she's goin up!

KENI - May go down a bit, still have Rydell and Rush - Porcarro's show is pretty weak IMO.

KBYR - I feel bad for any station that has to rely on Eddie Burke to make a mark.

KUDO - fired all its local talent, thus any reason to listen.

Your thoughts? Should be an interesting book, see you all back here next Thursday.

Nice analysis, though I'm still too new to this market to know how right or wrong you could be. For myself, I'm most curious how the Wolf will do. Judging from what I see on this board and hear from friends/coworkers, I may be their biggest fan, so I'm hoping for some good numbers to keep them going (with the exception of their football coverage, where I hope low ratings convince them to cut their losses and buy out the contract!). As for Movin. . .I just don't see them doing well - too varied a format to develop a core audience - but once again I seem to think differently from the rest of the pack, so we'll see. I'd love to see a big shake-up, especially in AM, just for something different to talk about. Oh, and good question about Woody & Wilcox - that really could go either way.

Hope you can post a link when the book comes out!

Well - Movin debuted strong, #1 Women 18-34 - wow! They pulled a 3.3 12+

Wolf - only did 'well' in men 35-64, they tied for #7 and beat KASH; KBRJ and KBFX smoked them though. Wolf posted a 1.9 12+, I think I predicted 1.7...

KEAG was #1 12+ - wow!

Woody and Wilcox went 4.0 - 4.2 12+, nothing to speak of.

Buzz and Bob got slaughtered, 2 down books for Bob, way down. What's next for 92.1?

Well - YOU'RE not missing anything, R&R is :D

It's posted on All Access, and (I didn't know this) but radio-info.com also has the complete 12+ ratings.

Movin really did some damage to KGOT and KFAT in the rankers, too bad you can't post that info here!
