Spring Numbers

thanks amos....that helped.
now that i understand what PPM is....do people actually wear them?
like a last millennium pager? what demographic would do that?

let me give you an example: my business stopped using telephone
marketing polls in 2002. the age group was averaging in the 50's.
(who had an actual land line, and who really answered the phone,
and who spoke with the pollster) so, would a 22-year-old really
wear a PPM? and maybe she would, but could PPM prove she did?
obviously, there's lots i don't 'get' concerning hard numbers with
PPM...or cume for that matter. it just sounds so sketchy to me.

Arbitron pays them.

thanks to johnq.
so simple.
arbitron (whatever that is)
PAYS them. i Get That.
sooo...arbitron (Star Wars planet name)
actually pays people real money to wear
a pager-thingie every day and everywhere.
has anyone on this forum ever worn one?
how does that work? or not?
i listen in the shower.

"KTCK in Dallas is a priiiime example. Low cume, huge TSL before PPM...and the numbers are the same or better after PPM."

Some low-cume stations will do okay in PPM. There are always exceptions. KTCK hovers around 30th(!) in cume with respectable TSL. They compete with local shows vs. syndication. If memory serves, they are also on FM which helps a lot I'm sure. In general though, stations that have relied on exaggerated loyalty memory in the diary world will suffer in the real world. There's plenty of data to support that. Stations with low cumes AND low TSL like the wretched WCMC here will not get much help from PPM.

They are on a 9k AM stick and a rimshot FM stick thats 53 miles away. Look at the other markets on the ratings here. There are stations ranked higher with half the cume of some competitors. While it DOES hurt some of these low cume, high TSL stations stations, like I said...the dropoff isn't NEARLY as steep as you think it will be.

johnq...thanks again. ironically, that home page referenced the US Census as well.
now, that i do know. i've drilled down into census procedures/results. the bottom
line on the US Census is: 12% of it is fake/quesstimates/made up. especially the
Latino/Hispanic numbers. the L/H population passed the A/A population in 1998.
back to radio and meters: what is your opinion on the results of PPM? is it
reliable enough for a $12M nationwide radio ad campaign? i'm starting to
think that the PPM is 50/50 on reality, but it's better than everything else.

I thing what we need here is a discussion on the problem of the Personal People Meteration system itself!!! I can't pots a link to what i need to say and that is this and that is that the thing won't work and people will turn it off and what if it falls in the pool. Also, just heard from a friend that for a little extra money, you can be "LOUDER' and be heard on more of them!!! :( ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D :D
