Spring P1 12+

Market Leaders: KMXZ, KIIM, KRQQ
Good: KOHT, KFMA
Eh...ok: KSZR, KLPX, KWMT
Mediocre: KHYT
Terrible: KTZR, KGMG, KQTH (F.Y.I. The Truth, call letter change)

Not suprised except for KSZR doing well (possibly Z's old audience) and Mega is suffering really bad.

I prefer KHYT over KLPX. More polished, better jocks. Slight new music slant.
Thoughts?

Not to mention KLPX is a clipfest. Sounds like I'm listening to a pair of $5 speakers with holes poked into them. ROCK 1075 sounds so much better.

What processing are they using? I've noticed sometimes going back and forth it is MUCH louder and bassier??

And could be me. But the Mega 106.3 (and 104.9) processing sounds real good lately.

It's not just you, I've thought the same thing about Mega - Who's the Chief over there. It was explained to me that KHYT is Over Power and nobody wants to report them to the FCC because then the entire market gets looked at?? I think its BS but people always have an Excuse for everything..

Why is it on these type of 'boards' no one takes claim to who they are?

I have never heard KLPX clipping. Maybe it's your radio. And yes, I've listened on more than my cheap Jeep factory speakers. In fact, I've never heard any clipping from any station.

and lamey...I've heard the same excuse regarding reporting any kind of complaint with the FCC. Is it an excuse, or job security?

At the end of the day, every person who is on air, my station or my competitor, is working for a living, doing the best they can and personally, I think the Tucson Market sounds very good for the size and the pay. I have been in larger markets and heard much worse.

Much love...thanks for listening!

KFMA sounds better, but I always find their station quiet.
Either that or we are all losing our hearing..cranking them headphones up too loud

Is that needed?

Somebody should make the call and find out and then we can post the results here

WHAT?!?!
...anyway...I don't understand. Someone mentioned ROCK being overpower. What does that mean?

transmitters are required to run at a certain power level (watts) ..so over power would be too many watts , which could make a station sound louder.

I think rock just has a good chief. Hot 98.3 needs to get RDS and play better music, sometimes it sounds as if they're playing MP3's.

The simple answer is: yes, there are a few grandfathered stations that run over 100,000 watts. Most notably, a station in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with effective radiated power of 320,000 watts.

Otherwise, the absolute power limit for a class-C FM, depending on antenna height and other factors, is 100,000 watts.

Loudness of a station has little to do with the watts. All other things being equal, you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between a station running a couple hundred watts and a couple gazillion, as far as how loud they are. Loudness is all about the "deviation". There are FCC limits for that too, and even more exceptions, but that's a subject best discussed in the Engineering section.

And yes, Rock has a good chief...as does KLPX, and Mix ;D
