SPRING RATINGS

WTVN seems to be the big winner here thanks to the Morning Monarch, Bob Connors aka BC.
They are #1 with a 8.7 share. Way to go BC and WTVN!

The biggest loser seems to be WCOL-FM becase they drop to a 5.5, the lowest share in their history.

It does appear country, as a format, took it on the chin in Columbus in this book. WHOK didn't do gangbusters, either.

WCLT went up, but you could be seeing some diary distribution issues as far as country goes.

I notice that neither of the Nabco FM's are doing any better 12+ than their previous incarnations of Ted-FM (now Talk-FM) and the Blitz (now the Rock).

Anyone know the specific numbers for Shark on Sports? I'm curious to see how they are stacking up against 1460 in the timeslot.

...which is why 12+ numbers are meaningless. The Rock saw a 69% improvement in its share among Men 25-54 from the Winter book to the Spring book and is now ranked third in that demo. It also finished as the eight-ranked station among Adults 25-54, which is the first time that frequency cracked the top ten in recent memory.

It's early, but it appears that the new format is doing exactly what North American wanted it to do.

I found this interesting article on the web from The Toledo Blade of December of 2006.
The old WTPG-AM 1230 PD said he was dropping progressive talk on 1230 AM after
eighteen months on the air because of poor ratings. He thought that conservative talk would produce
higher ratings for 1230 AM. Fact forward 18 moths and conservative talk WYCS seems to have lower overall ratings then it's predecessor.
So, dose this mean the end is near for Conservative talker WYTS-AM 1230 talker?

During this rating period WTVN-AM is #1 in the ratings and WYTS-AM is dead last. The argument in
changing WYTS in the first place was that Conservative talk is a lot more successful formant then
Progressive talk. That argument did not seem to pan out in this case.

I like some of the shows on WYTS!

Columbus station going conservative as key state positions turn Democratic
Radio switches dial from left to right

WTPG-AM (1230) is turning in its "progressive talk," featuring the likes of Al Franken, and trading it for conservatives like Michael Savage and Laura Ingraham. It changed its call letters to WYTS recently and will begin its new programming Jan. 9.

The move to the other end of the political spectrum at the Clear Channel station is purely about good business, program manager Bruce Collins said.

"The reason for the change is just due to lack of ratings performance by the radio station," he said.

You hit the nail on the head, its doing much better not only in the sales demo but in its target as well. North American is doing what they need to do!

*Also, nice move on WVKO-AM

...which is exactly why I was careful to make a no-opinion-added observation specifically referring to 12+ -- I hadn't seen demo rankers and was hoping someone might chime in with them.  Thanks, and congrats to 99.7 on the progress.  How is WTDA doing demo-wise?  My guess would be not so great, and that they haven't earn any attaboys.  But if I'm wrong I'll need to revise my assertion in another thread that TDA's signal will perpetually keep it from getting much traction of any kind.

Did anyone else notice that WNCI is listed as "Hot Adult Contemporary"?   ::)

SRDS (Standard Rates & Data Services) has had WNCI listed as Hot AC for years, although the last time I checked was at least four or five years ago.  I believe (not positive) that the SRDS format and target demo descriptors are provided by the stations themselves.  So I don't know whether NCI really considered itself a Hot AC; or considered itself CHR but thought Hot AC sounded more sale-able.

I know I've seen NCI listed as Hot AC elsewhere, too.  But as you know, two stations that sound very different can be tagged with the same format label.  Conversely, two stations can sound almost identical but have different format classifications in different trades (e.g., Radio-Info tags Columbus' Brew as 80's Hits, but it calls the very-similiar-sounding Milwaukee Brew Classic Rock.  It can get pretty fuzzy.
