Spring Ratings

The latest report is here: https://ratings.****************/cgi-bin/rol.exe/arb141

Kiss tops this book while the country stations and KIOT are in three way tie for second place. Magic moves ahead of the Peak after their changes while Mix 105.1 is not doing much only a tiny bit better than The River did. The loss of "Yo!" has helped 95.1 move just outside the top 10. 770 is still in the top 5 but not doing as well as they used to just a few years ago. While the left leaning format on KABQ 1350 is at the bottom at a near zero. I wonder if KANW-2 107.5 has had a negative impact on that station although they don't publish numbers for public stations. The Spanish stations seem to have the most unstable numbers as both KLVO and KRZY have dropped into the 1s and whatever AGM did to KJFA it is a no show. The 80s format on 104.7 has bombed out! I wonder if they will change it soon? The Edge has lousy numbers but that format seems to be struggling in a lot of places. 100.9 The Beat is up to it's best number but still way behind Kiss. The sports stations are still near the bottom but not much gain for KNML with the FM translator. Perhaps Cumulus should use one of the translators for KTBL which is near zero and start a new format there. The shares total at 61.7 so I wonder where the other 38.3 went? The Vanguard stations are not listed nor are the public or religious ones but I wonder if they also count streaming use as well?

KABG may not have any direct competition but they still compete somewhat other stations. They are pretty much head-to-head with KDRF which probably does better in the "money demos" while 104.7 is clearly not impacting anyone. Decade themed formats have never worked on terrestrial radio, it seems you need at least a 20 year span of music for any gold-based format. 101.3 might also be competitive with the older demos.

All I hear on 770/94.5 is ongoing advertising and a few political rants often about the same things. But they recently took back the afternoons for local programs so we'll see how that goes. They currently have promos with someone (maybe Cumulus interns) stating that they are millennials who listen to KKOB. Yeah OK maybe they should hire an actual millennial host who would know what interests their generation.

What Happened to the New Kiss PD Randy Fox.........He was announced as PD in July.....But People in The Building Tell me they just Offered The Job to a LOCAL
I noticed That AGM ratings on station they owned befor sale all went down while the univision stations stayed strong

Having a heritage brand is just about everything these days. KABG was their most established brand, while KLVO and other Spanish stations are often a yo-yo in the ratings and there seems to be less brand loyalty with that audience. But they tried many times to take on KKSS without much success since the first "Wild" format and using one of their stations for a classical format and they never could make anything happen on 106.7. So now they OWN Kiss as well as KIOT alongside KABG which makes for a more competitive cluster with Cumulus and iHeart. 105.1 was likely kept for it's signal coverage. Actually it was smart move by AGM.

So one of their former stations is now religious and another was converted to a public radio station while they divested another to a wealthy real estate developer who appears to have no broadcasting or media background, so what does he want with a radio station in central New Mexico? Perhaps he is looking to resell it at a higher value than the 750k paid for it.

However the first trend numbers for summer has the Spanish stations moving up again with KJFA now called "Exitos 102.9" going from nothing to a 2.0.

Do the Cumulus stations only report twice a year? No report on 93.3, 92.3, 99.5, etc. Also, I don't see KOAZ (AM or FM translator) on that rating list, even though an en Espanol Sports graveyarder got a 0.1...huh?!

I don't know what you mean by "report". Stations don't "report" to the ratings companies.

But if you mean "subscribe" then there is an explanation.

The Cumulus stations are measured, as are all stations, all year long in the PPM and 4-book markets. But Cumulus only subscribes in most of its medium markets to the Spring and Fall books.

Subscribers and agencies see all the data, but the public release does not include non-subscribers. KOAZ is not subscribed, thus no listing in the public release. The ESPN station's cluster is subscribed, and the station made the MRS qualifications to be included, so it is listed.

It's not loyalty. It's numbers.

There are about 140 diaries a week in ABQ. At any given time, only about 15 diarykeepers are listening to any station.

The market is half Hispanic, but less than 20% of Hispanics there are Spanish dominant, meaning about 160 diaries in total for that group. So the sample, if perfect, only has about 14 Spanish diarykeepers in any given week, and on average perhaps two have any listening in a particular time during the week.

At that level, the Spanish language stations wobble incredibly from week to week.

The summer book is now in and the Cumulus stations are not listed, although Cumulus stations are shown in the Oklahoma City, Fresno, and Knoxville markets. However in this market they often have the best advantage since their cluster has the best signals and all but 96.3 has an established heritage brand so the numbers would likely be in their favor. Plus how would they know if the programming changes at 770 are making any difference?

Aside from that the rest of the stations have similar numbers to winter. Lobo and Exitos are up so AGM has a pretty good book with the exception of 105.1 which continues to sink to the bottom. iHeart with nine stations (6 FMs, 1 AM and 2 HD fed translators) does pretty well with KPEK, KZRR, and KBQI but the rest have moderate to low numbers.
