Spring Trend 1

Yep, it's only a trend cowboys! Let me say that upfront, but wow what a trend. Big Winners 25-54 for the month of April:
KZOK through the roof
WOLF through the roof
KMPS still alive
KISW
KMTT
Big losers:
KJR-FM falls off the classic hits planet
KJR-AM falls off the sports planet
KRWM slippin like a warm snake
KISS, KBSG, KPLZ, END, JACK all still on the edge of format change in this cowboys book.Big rumors of format change in the works already KBSG with PD hittin the low road. KPLZ is up to something, they don't sound the same to this cowboy. About time for both of these bottom feeders to do something. Music already sounds different, can staff changes be far behind. kiss and End might as well just turn off the power and save the money. They ain't no where, KUBE and MOVIN are blowin apart 18-34 again.

HOWWWWWLLLLLLLLLL.

Yep....OUCH....KISS 106 and Star 101.5 are toast. KMPS and Wolf both really strong, KUBE and Movin really looking great! KBSG looks decent...why a format change there. Why would they put News/Talk on FM? Hot Talk has failed on the FM and so will regular talk and news. People expect News/Talk on AM not FM.

I've been harping on KPLZ for sometime on this board. I still think they are due for a major change. Here's an out-of-the-box thought...move Kent and Alan to either KVI or KOMO. They could probably evolve into great "talk" hosts, given the chance.

KJR-FM was just starting to gain momentum. I think too soon to blow up at this point.

WARM will remain strong regardless of a down book.

KBSG is a total wildcard. I wouldn't be surprised with anything they do with that signal. KIRO-FM? Possible. Stay the course? Also possible.

The usual suspects did well (KISW, KUBE, etc..)

Is anyone else surprised at the success of Adam Carolla? Do people really like Danny Bonaduce?

KZOK seems to be on a roll.

If you look closely, KISW is slipping a tad but still remains strong. Vey nice trend for KZOK and the Wolf! What in the world has happened to KISS? If they do decide to shift gears, what direction can they possibly go?

Format Change Ideas for the following:

Kiss 106.1 should change to a Up-tempo Modern AC like 92.9 ZZU in Spokane
Star 101.5 will either flip to a Rythmic AC direction to go head to head with Movin or Country.

Any other ideas?

Red,

I took a listen for the first time to ZZU in Spokane. Sounds alot like the Modern AC format STAR in LA has. I don't see why something like this couldn't work in Seattle. Seems to me KPLZ plays some of these artists already but find it necessary to throw in up-tempo 80's pop songs. KISS also plays a handful of the artists found on a Modern AC but feel they have to also play the likes of Akon and Diddy to be sucessful. I think its about time one of these stations step up and give a true Modern AC format a chance.

I really enjoy Adam Carolla. The Duche, not so much. Even with DB, the ACS is still my favorite morning show.

...and KOMO now edges out KIRO somewhat - due to the M's of course...

...heh, NOTHING like it was between the two stations back in the '2002' trends however...

Outside of Carolla, how are the rest of the dayparts at the End looking? I'm curious as how the PD and his new show are doing.

Kiss is over and has been for over a year once MOVIN came on. The END is dead across the board, Adam Corolla had a fluke month and is back at the bottom. Both stations will flip, as I have predicted for months on this board. Solid ya ya month for MOVIN and JACK. KZOK was out of this world, so was the Wolf. Those who thought MOVIN dead were so wrong. STAR has already flipped format, but god knows what the hell they are doing. I heard Akon and Rascal Flatts in the same hour, mixed with U-2 and Rob Thomas. What format is that??? Ya ya ya ha ha ha. Told you they would flip, just what did they flip to? Still same lame jocks and imaging. Maybe this is a stunt. Once again I told you this would happen proving once and for all that mammaknowsbest.

Hmmm. not sure Rascal Flatts is out of the former Star format. The other titles perhaps. The truth will be in the imaging. Not being in the market, someone let me know if there is any great change in positioning/jingles, etc. I earlier said Kent and Alan might move to KVI or KOMO, but on further thought, they are the strength of Star, so at the least, perhaps a simulcast on KVI? Just a guess. They'd probably have to drop the music. Certainly "out of the box" thinking, but was do they have to lose? An AMFM simulcast has not been tried in Seattle for atleast a few decades, (unless I am missing somthing here...). I think Fisher has an opportunity to try some new ideas with their Seattle properties. Will they take the chance? I have been saying that KPLZ needs major changes for awhile on this site...I think that is getting closer to happening. Just a gut feel...

Come on.. can Seattle support a 3rd country? Or another Rhy a/c? NO...

How about a soft a/c.. we need another good one.. maybe similar to what FRESH is in NYC... at least the same boring jocks would work...

OR KPLZ could flip to Classic Rock and take on the white hot KZOK or flip and take on KUBE which is doing very well too!

I'd rather have a soft a/c.. "Fresh 101.5"?

Just so I am clear ... STAR has same talent, same name, same imaging, same music core .... and you are trying to tell us they have done a FORMAT flip. If a station were to add "two or three new currents every week" to their playlist, under your definition they have done a "flip".

In any case it seems-----------What the hell was that that just whooshed by. Maybe it was your credibility whooshing out the window???

LLB eat crow. There are some worthless aging minds on this board like you AQH, Djdan and others that live in the past and talk about the past. Stations like KMPS, KBKS, KPLZ, KBSG and yes even KZOK are reminents of a male dominated radio world that is no more. MOVIN, JACK, WOLF and a new wave of radio is here, as I said a year ago. One year later I am more right than wrong. Rivers is the last of the aging DJ's that has any numbers and I say by this time next year he will join K@A, ICHy in the aging DJ's retirement home. In all seriousness, these guys had a nice run and deserve some respect. There is a long list of wannabees that never had the success of these old boys. Give them their due and send them out to pasture. Do you really think KMPS and KBKS are going to come back if they don't make major changes? STAR and KBSG are changing, but are they the right changes, or just old boys tryin to stay alive. My money is on the new breed. Last year I said change was a comin from the ya ya sisterhood of new radio talent. Now I can say that change is here and it is ya ya good.

aw damn...now I want MY mommy.....

I only have a brief moment cuz I gotta go listen to all those yesterday airchecks and stay glued to the past. But...for what it's worth....it was kind of fun living in the days of twenty-something shares where people knew what a radio was, loved it, and turned it on once in awhile. If we wanna get panties in a knot about which "killer format" is gonna get a slice of the audience that is left today or a year from now (and which actually APPEALS to the people who want to spend money on it) .... I'm game. But it really WOULD be a lot more fun if we were talking about a lot more people who may have some audience recall (or loyalty) twenty minutes from now .... much less twenty years.

Moooooooooooooooooommmmmmyyyyyy.......this person is telling me things that make me CRY..........
