Springfield: Love the town (as do my parents). Hate the market (as do my parents).
The major players:
Journal: Have to start here. Journal has market leader KTTS, second or third banana KSPW and pretty much nothing else. KZRQ 106.7 is a struggling rock station. KSGF does well in the talk format but is mostly syndicated programming. Most people think it does well by default.
Clear Channel: Has KGBX, which does very well. Doesn't have much else. KXUS 97.3 is the heritage AOR, which has fallen to the middle of the pack. KTOZ 95.5 does variety hits, and it does okay in the ratings. It also has jocks, but not too many of them. KSWF 100.5 is the country station. It's a trainwreck, and the ratings seem to indicate that. I hear the 25-54 numbers, however, are better than the 12+ would indicate. KGMY 1400 is syndicated sports.
Midwest Family: KOMG 92.9 is classic country and has suddenly gone from being a cellar dweller to top-3. KOSP 105.1 is oldies and used to be the cluster leader but has fallen to the bottom ranked station in the cluster in the last book. It has John Stevens and the M&M Boys of KTTS fame. KKLH recently flipped from classic hits to classic rock as 104.7 The Cave. It went up in its first book since the change. KQRA 102.1 is alternative and recently had a really good book after being at the bottom of the cluster for several books. Probably the best cluster in the market in terms of staff and chemistry but has a lot of uncertainty as well. It's looking for an OM and is rumored to be for sale as one of the owners passed away a year or so ago.
Meyer Communications: Horrible place to work from all accounts from within the building. KTXR 101.3 is soft AC, but I don't recognize many songs I hear on it. KWTO AM/FM are a talk/sports combo; AM is talk while FM does sports. KWTO 560 is probably looking for a new morning host; its new morning host just passed away over the weekend. KBFL 1060/99.9 is a standards simulcast.
