SS-32 Touch Screens

I had an SS-32 CRT touch screen monitor die and was wanting to upgrade to an LCD version. Scott/Google wants an outrageous amount for the LCD with touch screen. Is anyone using something at a lower cost that did not come from them? I see many touch screens on the market, but don't want to buy something that won't work. Thanks for your help!

ELO has some nice products out there that won't break you. I think their 15" touch is around 350, and it is compatible w/ SS32, any touch screen works w/ Scott, don't let them tell you otherwise. Its just a way for them to make more money off ya!

I agree that its just a way for them to make more money...BUT dont use what they say and they may have a legal way to NOT support you (aint that nice??..they screw ya coming and going!)..
Unless they have specific drivers (and I doubt that since its all tied to W2K or XP OS anyway), they really cant stop you from buying any touchscreen monitor...now if you have a problem later and they find out you arent using recommended gear, you could be SOL as far as support...YMMV

I dunno...we use SS32 software with touch screens, and there really isn't anything that ties the software and the touch screens together. All of the features of SS32 can be utilized with a regular computer mouse and no touch screens. So I'd think you could just get whatever touch screen device you wanted.

I agree the Scott touchscreens aren't anything special. And, they do not tie into the program at all. They all use standard Windows drivers which either come with the screen or you can download from the manufacturers website. ELO has a budget LCD touch series (series 1000) that works well and you can't beat the price! I've used these with SS32, Mediatouch and AudioVault systems.

ELO is the brand we use with our SS32 setup as well. They are good performers. Good *American* tech support, too! ;)

Thanks for the input and suggestions! I had a feeling other ELO's would work, but was wanting someone to confirm it. A definite cost savings by not buying a monitor from Scott/Google.

Not much to do with "just a way for them to make more money..." A BIG chunk of the cost for a touch screen used for RADIO AUTOMATION goes to the patent holder that Scott Studios pays every time they send one out the door. The patent holder sued all the companies that use the screens in a manner described in their patent. SS settled out of court.

I have used Planar before with both SS32 and NEXGEN (both USB interface) without any problems. ALSO sometimes you may be able to get a Dell branded ELO touch screen cheaper than ELO itself (if they still make them)
