ALL Toronto (radio) DJs use it -
no matter if its kiss92, 99.9, z103, maybe even chum...

it ssssweeeeeeps thru the music and
usually serves as a quicker transition
and even bridges songs that may not
"work" ( meshing together) soo I know what
it is used for, wonders:

1. why?
stations have talented dj's and mix masters they dont need it

It's becoming a branding tool used by DJ's. With mixes being readily available on the internet and stations contracting out for DJ's instead of employing them in-house, it's a way club jocks can protect their mixes from being downloaded or streamed other places without proper compensation.
 
its a shame - sounds like the Djs cant "mix"
and use it as a lame transition...
