For my first posting on this site, I wish to call your attention to movie umbrella titles in the St. Louis region.
1. I know that St. Louis' two independents during the 1980s, KPLR-TV Channel 11 and KDNL-TV Channel 30 aired movies during the late hours (that is, all night long on weeknights). I recently learned that the first movie on their all night block during the 1980s aired under the title "The Big Movie". I also think that Channel 11 might have used the umbrella title "The Last Picture Show" for its wee-late movies (In the interest of disclosure, "The Last Picture Show" was used during the mid to late 1980s on KPLR's then-sister station KRBK-TV in Sacramento, which also used another umbrella title dubbed "Night Owl Theater" in the early 1980s). So, did KPLR use "Night Owl Theater" for its second late movie, and then "The Last Picture Show" for its last movie of the late hours, or did they use "The Last Picture Show" for its all night movies from 1:00am to 5:00am?
2. During the 1970s and 1980s, KMOV-TV Channel 4, back in the day when they were CBS owned-and-operated KMOX-TV, aired the "Bijou Picture Show" on Friday and Saturday nights. At that time, Channel 4 owned the television rights to MGM and Warner Bros. features from the early 1930s to the late 1950s, and as such would usually be found on their late movie offerings. At the same time, many CBS O&Os that aired late night movies (WBBM Chicago, KNXT/KCBS Los Angeles, WCBS New York and WCAU Philadelphia) used the monikers "The Late Show" and "The Late Late Show", not to mention "The Late Late Late Show". So did KMOX-TV use "The Late Show", "The Late Late Show" and "The Late Late Late Show" as well? (By the way, it should be noted that KMOX-TV was the first station in the market to air all night movies on weeknights.)
3. What umbrella title did Channel 30 use for their late night movies up to 1988-89? Was it "All Night at the Movies" ofr some other title? I think that KDNL-TV used the former by the end of the 1980s.
4. What was the movie umbrella titles used for KTVI Channel 2's weekend afternoon movies? At the time KTVI was affiliated with ABC.
5. And finally we come to KSDK-TV Channel 5, which was and still is the most-watched station in the market. Up until the mid to late 1970s, Channel 5 aired "Movie of the Week" on Saturday nights until 1975 and on Sunday nights, dating back from when they were then KSD-TV. After a somewhat lengthy hiatus, KSDK began airing movies on Sunday nights. What was the umbrella title and did the movies come from their own library or did it come from a syndicated source like the Movie Greats Network?
That is all I have to say for now. If anyone has some info, all they need to do is reply.
