Recipe for Fixing Star 98.7: Staff Change
Rick Dees could possibly still be in play. While I fully expect KXOL to announce soon that he is their new AM driver, I think KYSR is the logical home for him musically. The entire station is at risk of being deleted, and I think much of the problem stems from their simply awful morning show. Jamie has got to go. She has been the one constant there during the entire slide. Just as KLSX has lost share since Howard left, KYSR can GAIN share once Jamie leaves (is pushed) and that goes for the rest of the "stench" that accompanies her on that show. Jamie is simple too negative in aura for the station. Let her go back to Denver where they apparently liked her.
Then again, I have heard that KYSR bills well, which should be reason enough to attempt a salvage effort. I have posted before how impressed I am with their PD, Mike Marino's track record, but I gotta tell you, I am still waiting to see his fingerprints show up on KYSR. Hey Mike - now is not the time to take it slow with Star, rather re-make it ASAP into LA's version of Mix 94.1 in Las Vegas. Hit the street, promo like mad, break new music on a regular basis, get a strong morning show team that exudes warmth, and all the other elements that have been your trademarks.
