Staff Shakeup At The Weather Channel

It looks like TWC is shaking up it's f/t staff. Veteran OCM Heather Tesch announced via her Facebook page,that she has been pulled off the air (from her usual f/t slot) & will return to TWC on a weekend basis starting on April 14th. In my opinion it seems to me, that they are cutting costs.

it's seriously disappointing to see that they're pursuing more young people and cutting out the people that made the network what it was, and that it's becoming a home to reject reality shows (Ice Pilots is on there because it did nothing for NatGeo).

It's no wonder people are switching to the web for weather information; heck, I paid $4 for the iPhone TWC app, and I find the free weather app from Canada's The Weather Network works much better for my needs and has more information. And of course, local weather subchannels where the corporate overlords haven't removed them yet clean the Weather Channel's clock when it comes to current information.

NBC/Comcast still smarting from their merger? But, hey, as long as they don't bring back "Weather And A Movie," we'll get by...

Apple charges for the TWC app? That app is free on Blackberry and Android. There are a ton of other free weather apps: Accuweather, Weatherbug, etc.
 
Personally, I never needed Al Roker on that channel to bring me weather info. He can go away for all I care. And it's just embarrassing sometimes to see the weather people ramp up their delivery speed to make room for the next batch of commercials. I think if they try to squeeze any more commercials on that channel, it is going to explode. Except for extended weather coverage of hurricanes and severe weather, the whole channel has turned into one big farce.
 
It makes you wonder if NBC had acquired Weather Channel decades ago, would they be trotting out Willard Scott to appear on the network... Al Roker is, more or less, NBC's modern-day Willard Scott.
 
I find it sad, that a well educated meteorologist, who has been an employee of TWC for nearly a decade. Gets demoted, because she probably makes more money, than her co-workers. I have always found Heather to be good at her job. And she isn't afraid to show personality during her show. And I must say, in a profession where looks play a major part. She is a beautiful woman. What a sad commentary our work environment has become. Get a good education, be very good at your job duties, have seniority & make enough compensation. Only to be replaced or demoted with someone younger with less experience, who is willing to work for cheaper money. When will management understand experience matters? Even when physical appearance is not an issue (in regards to Heather Tesch).

This couldn't be age discrimination, could it? Ms. Tesch is older than the average TWC female weather guesser. Could it be a case of them looking for youth (see Stephanie Abrams and Jen Carfagno) to keep a certain demographic tuned in longer?
 
@ Eric Stein. I don't know if Heather's age is now an issue? If I recall correctly, about a decade or so ago. Former OCM Maurny Stanier, might of claimed age discimination. But getting back to Heather. I don't know her age. But she is the best looking woman on TWC staff.
 
Also Carl Parker does other things know and then. Jim Cantore,Mike S.,V. Brown and so on have been here along time. Paul Goodwill was put on Weekends along with Kelly Cass.

For iPhone, there's a free version and a $3.99 paid version which is ad-free and has a couple of other additional features.
 
well, it was told to me that NBC bought TWC just for weather.com.
"just for" meaning: the sole and only reason, period. end of story.
TWC is ONLY advertising or 'showroom' for weather.com.
the business model evolves.
 
If they pulled Mike Seidel off, they are toast. There hasn't been better weather entertainment and passion than watching him bend at a 45 degree angle while dodging pieces of metal in a 300 mph hurricane.
 
That's why I don't watch the Weather Channel. After NBC Universal took over, kicked Dave Schwartz off, put on "Wake Up With Crap", and put a prime-time lineup of reality shows that are not about the weather, I don't watch it anymore. I would love for all the 1990s OCMs that are still alive back on, but that won't happen in my wildest dreams...
