Racial issue? I beg to differ. I think what we have here is an illegal immigration issue. The racial issue is not about Yogi and Panda (legal citizens) or legal Hispanic folks in general, but actually about their illegal alien listening audience and the wide spread demand for Spanish to be spoken in this country by a group of folk’s intent on not assimilating into their host country. Currently, this group of illegal aliens are not a benefit to America, but to mostly Mexico where they send a large sum of their money.
My Vietnamese Princess and her family jumped through their arse holes to become American citizens the right way per American law. One family member escaped Communist captors and their torture three times before he finally got out of the country only to jump through American immigration hoops. All of these family members made concentrated efforts to learn English and have honored their family with their educational accomplishments. The younger generation is on the same course of accomplishment.
With our Hispanic friends we have ignored their illegality and have thrown out the normal requirements to enter this country legally. We are not deporting illegal aliens; we find excuses to accommodate them. Go to Home Depot or Lowe's or call your utility or bank and you will see what I mean. We turn a blind eye to this illegal activity by saying that we need their labor. This is a flawed belief because these individuals are not literate in our language and it is difficult to convey our expectations and the quality of the work we expect even for basic tasks. Construction specific, on a wholesale basis folks illiterate in English are ignorant of the specified process of the work they are to perform and the importance of the application sequence per job specifications. Many times, the result of their improper installation is premature product failure. It is not that they do not care, they do not understand the process and do not care to learn because their interest is collecting their money and sending it back home where they will eventually return. They are not here for the long term.
Also disturbing is the fact that education is not emphasized in their culture. Rarely do I see Hispanic students at the adjacent high school carrying books home to study lessons. My three children have book bags full of books and spend three hours each night on school related work. Will undereducated Hispanic students go to technical schools or will they add to our crime problem?
Then we have the problem of crime associated with illegal aliens. It is huge. Go look at the list of Hispanic names vs. the American names at your local jail and you will see what I mean. Any one read the local Cox newspaper last week about illegal immigrants and the City of Roswell?
There is no racial issue with regard to Hispanic folks coming to this country. You are welcome to come to America, just enter the country illegally. If you decide you want to stay here legally, please make the required applications with INS to do so. Once you have cleared those requirements, remember that in this country we speak English. If you want to live the American dream you will get there quicker by learning our language.
If folks serious about coming to our country, follow the rules, and can prove the will be productive citizens I say welcome to America!
