Stan and Guy vacation

I understand and appreciate the fact that thanks to the success of the Steelers and Penguins, sports in Pittsburgh is nearly a 12 month a year job. Stan and Guy work hard and I am not one to begrudge anyone of well deserved down time. My first sentence however included the word nearly. The sports scene in Pittsburgh will now lie dormant until July 31. Why couldn't ESPN management strongly suggest to Stan and Guy to stagger their vacation time. As long as one of them are in the studio the show is interesting and has credibility. Memo to ESPN management: In the interest of ratings and credibility please do not allow Stan and Guy to vacation at the same time ever again. I will listen to your staion again upon the return of Stan and/or Guy.

how dare those two go on vacation! but i do agree, the fill in chris mack is like listening to the washing machine....not to mention, he won't let anyone else talk...he's on with dave damochek? (not sure how it's spelled) and the poor guy has to wait patiently till mack shuts up. i like the dave guy. mack should go back to screening calls and coming up with annoying drops including his bad impersonations of jimmy krenn impersonating a pittsburgher......keep it just stan and guy, no chris, and never let the duo go on vacation...ever....california

California
Let me make crystal clear: I don't begrudge anyone from vacationing. I have always felt that our society works too hard and we all need to shut it down periodically. Life is short. I do not understand however the decision to have both Stan and Guy off at the same time. I agree with you totally about Chris Mack. I couldn't have said it better myself. I've been saying all along that Chris Mack has no business being on the Stan and Guy show.

The theory is that Mack prevents it from being a total senior citizen show. Don't know if it works or not, but that's the thinking behind it.

Junker now has the TV job full-time, so I wonder if he might lose interest in the rado job.

Stan and Guy have too many jobs!!!

Think about it, there was a time when Guy was off TV and Stan was off radio. Now those two are everywhere, print, TV, and radio.

As to Chris Mack, he's growing on me. I believe as others have stated that he was put there to counter act the "fossil" effect. Both S & G are over 50 and while I like there Three Stooges and other Baby Boomer references, I'm sure the under 40 crowd has no idea what they are talking about. I think they need Chris there to explain texting and twittering.

copanut you couldn't be more wronger. think about all the personalities on the radio right now. krenn 50ish, quinn 90ish, paulsen 50ish, madden 40ish (closer to 50), mc dowell 50ish, merkel 50ish, richards 50ish, that guy on star with shelly duffy, 70ish, john kline, 50ish, jimmy roach, almost 60ish, ....and there are more.....as a matter of fact, i'd challenge you to come up with a few younger talents in this town who are tearing the cover off the ball...
but the point isn't and shouldn't be about age. good is when a twenty five year old can relate to a 70 year old and when a 70 year old can relate to a 25 year old. stan and guy can relate to any age, anytime. that's what makes them good. obnoxious noise at any age just plain stinks! sorry, but it's true. keep it stan and guy and keep mack pressing the buttons on the sound effects machine.

well, Joe Starkey spent half of his weekend show interviewing the inventor of the Wiffle Ball,
so there is probably not a more ideal time in Pittsburgh Sports Talk to schedule a vacation.

wait a cotton pick'n minute guys!!!!! no way you can pick on wiffle ball talk and expect me to sit back and take it!!!!! actually i did hear some wiffle ball talk on the show saturday, but apparently was fortunate to have missed the interview with the grand poobah of the sport. as a kid who broke at least three windows of my dad's garage playing wiffle ball, then blamed the neighbor juvey, i must admit it brought back some cool memories.

I'm sure that listeners all over town were left speechless, just like Michel Therrien
at a post-game press conference

I didn't hear this interview, but I would like to make the interview that I'd rather have a host allegedly swing and miss like this every once in a while if it meant that they entered a mindset where they thought out of the box.

I love Joe Starkey, don't know if I could take his Bob Troll voice 5 days a week, but he is very knowledgable and opinionated without being rude and he's from Buffalo, where he suffered through 4 Super Bowl loses, so I feel superior to him.

Chris Mack and Ken Laird are both so over their head, they almost make Tim Benz listenable (almost. Well, actually, not.). When was the last time Laird was right about anything? When's the last time Mack wasn't annoying?

Stan is essentially a part-timer on his own show, since any time there is something going on in the afternoon, he covers that instead of doing the radio show. Still, it is a good show when both of them are on.

Stan and Guy are this generation's "Cope on Sports."

It's a different show for sure, but I appriciate their knowledge, tact, and personalty.

It's the show you listen to if you REALLY want to know what's going on.

By the way, I should have written "I would like to make the point" and not " I would like to make the interview."

But if anyone would like to start a thread where they interview me, go right ahead! ;D

The sports guys in this town are stuffing all of the vacation they can into July because that's all they get. When you think about it their only real window this year is June 20th through July 22nd. You can't take time off during the Steeler season around here which ran all of the way into February. Two weeks later the Pens fire their coach the same week the Pirates open Spring Training. Then the Pens push their season all of the way into June.

If all of this happens next year sports guys will be having nervous breakdowns because on top of that they'd have to fit the US Women's Open at Oakmont into the middle of all of that.
