"Stand Alone "FM's

Depends on where you're thinking...I'll help you out as much as I can:

WXJK 101.3 (low-rated Rock station in Farmville, has tower rental money and the ability to upgrade to C3)
WVHL 92.9 (High-rated country station in Farmville)
WHLF 95.3 (South Boston's only local radio station)
WZBB 99.9 (a small portion of Roanoke covered)
WLSA 105.5 (Sat. programmed station in Louisa...not sure if it's stand alone)
WHFD 105.5 (Small Lawrenceville radio station)

Generally speaking, however, most stations have an AM compliment, so if you don't want any of those, you'll have to buy an FM and an AM or a non-comm.

If you need more help, let me know.

"WVHL 92.9 (High-rated country station in Farmville)"

This is the overstatement of the year. Highly rated country station. Does anyone know what number in the arbitron books Farmville is?????? WVHL might be highly rated by a handful of rednecks with blown out speakers. But outside of the town limits, it's just another nuisance on the dial.

Ouch!

Last time I checked, Farmville would have a market ranking of...umm...#3974 :)

Well, according to the non-metros (which I assume you don't have access to, according to your statement) WVHL has been number 2 in Prince Edward Co. for over a year now, behind the constant ratings winner WFLO-AM/FM (I suppose they're combo'd up because they simulcast a good bit). It's against RI rules to say what share anybody has (hint: very, VERY similar to the 12+ a book ago of WIVK in Knoxville), but you'd be hard pressed to find a person who wouldn't like to be the salesperson of that station. WVHL also does quite well in Cumberland, Nottoway, and Lunenburg and is frequently #1 in Charlotte County. Not bad for a class A station with competition in various parts from 6 other stations!

Now, that's not fair, my truck didn't have blown speakers!

Wanna know what's a nuisance IN the town? WFLO! a 50kW tranny that bleeds so much across the dial that you can't pick up anything else

OK...Since I am long gone taking shade underneath a palm tree in Georgia, I will admit that I am partial to WVHL because I worked with those folks. To be honest with you, I think they are some of the best people to work for in Southside. Sherry has done a good job in running the station and is a walking country music encyclopedia. Ditto with the new morning guy Ken Alan. For a staff of 4-5 people, that station does awfully damn well compared to stations with double the amount of people. The station had some real problems in the past (like a 2 year stint of 24/7 bluegrass) but they have turned around, and their billing certainly shows it.

While I understand that the board is a great place to BMC about stations that you don't like (I am certainly guilty of it myself), it is kinda unfair to make claims that have no backing at all. I encourage you, computertech, to show your face to me. Either e-mail me with your name or post it here for all to see...I have a feeling I know exactly who you are from my travels...

OK...enough. I, for one, have a job to go to...GOOD DAY, SIR!

#1 in Charotte county, now there is something to write home about. Ive been a reader of these boards for a while now and Ive just grown tired of everytime someone says anything about radio in the central va area, you go singing your praises of that one horse radio station. If you think that they are the best, no wonder everyone is switching to CD's and XM. I'm not saying that anybody that works there isn't talented in his/her own way. As far is their billing, I'm sure that it is mediocre at best and the newspaper still keeps the lights on in the place. To me, I just plainly don't see what is good about it at all. As far as the e-mail thing, Ive got better things to do than trade quipps with you about WVHL.

The buck stops here, brother...

It's the truth! Get the non-metros from last fall and check for yourself!

No...this was related to "stand alone" FM's, not "What do you think about Farmville radio" Your post was totally extraneous and unecessary...I said that WVHL was a high rated country station in Farmville. Had you kept your mouth shut and realized "as much as I hate WVHL, maybe they aren't that bad" we wouldn't have had this discussion. I would have felt stupid because I responded to spam, and you could have posted some other interesting tibit about radio.

Plus, I find it quite interesting that about half of your posts are related to how sucky WVHL is...looks like *somebody* has a chip on their shoulder, eh?

> If you think that
> they are the best, no wonder everyone is switching to CD's
> and XM.

Is that an insult?

God, man...that made no sense at all...I'm half awake and I can STILL compose quasi-legible sentences!

> I'm not saying that anybody that works there isn't
> talented in his/her own way. As far is their billing, I'm

If the newspaper were to spin them off today, they would be a cash-positive business like most well-run stations...enough said.

> To me, I just plainly
> don't see what is good about it at all.

Yes...personally, if I was a multi-millionaire and I owned the station, I'd wipe the Scott Studios clean and put my own little jukebox on there...but, alas, I don't. It fills a need in the area...Farmville, some of Charlotte and PECO have no country station with city-grade coverage. WVHL fills that need. Maybe the production is not up to par with other stations, maybe they play too much whatever, but it fills the need.

> As far as the e-mail
> thing, Ive got better things to do than trade quipps with
> you about WVHL.

Well then...STOP MAKING ALL YOUR DAMN POSTS ABOUT THEM...YA NO-NAME LOSER! I think it's pretty crappy of you to spout off crap about stations when you have no factual evidence! Of course, you can do that here on RI, but be warned that you now have no credibility on this board! I have shot down most of your reasons why the station sucks! YOU LOSE, I WIN...SUCKER!

*dances around room like a crazed lunatic*

Actually, this is all pretty stupid. Now that both of us look like raving idiots, I just ask of you one simple thing: That you will have PROOF or at least have a generic non-provable point about a station (aka: DUDE! Like, WVHL's imaging, like, sucks!)

I hereby declare this WVHL conversation over. Any more yapping you do about how horrible the station is will probably fall on deaf ears because, let's face it, there are probably three people on this board who care about Farmville radio.

Damn, with people like you on the board, I don't need coffee to get my scrawny redneck radio station-lovin' tail out of bed...

Re: The buck stops here, brother...

Does this mean we can't be friends anymore?

Just remember when you make comments like "highly rated", watch the context in which you use them. Most people might not agree with you.

And just for the record, I have never worked at any radio station in that area of central va, so thinking that I am a disgrunted employee can be stopped now.
