Standards back in Charlotte, N.C.

The article says it went a satellite music service. Was it MOYL,JONES or something else? Glad they carry BBJ with my friend Don Kennedy.

I am always glad to hear of a new standards station being born, regardless of what service they use.

It's "Jones Standards" which I guess used to be MOYL. No matter what you call it I think they do a fine job. The music is well balanced. Some new artists in with the standards to keep it fresh, and a little Big Band music (not too much) to add spice.

I just wish it was on a 24 hour station. I know WAVO is 24 hours but after dark they go from 5KW to 59 watts! Wow in my day we though going from 1KW to 250 watts was low power. I think they have a pre-sunrise authorization of 250 watts.

Still it's a good move because from what I have seen of GM Tom Gentry (I don't know him personally) he will give the format a chance on WAVO. The only thing missing is a network newscast at the top of the hour.

Actually, MOYL no longer comes from Jones.

I had a chance to sample this station on Monday. I remembered to turn on a radio during the day, one that gets good reception on AM. I couldn't believe how good this sounded compared to even Dial Global. To me, though, there's nothing wrong with the 60s and 70s MOR.
