Somebody help me understand this.
In what is almost 2009, in an economy where terrestrial radio is fighting for its very life, where cutbacks are daily and, in some cases, severe, we now have someone rolling the dice and betting two old and weary AM stations can succeed by playing music. Is that a fair assessment?
Is it just me, or is this an absurdity, a folly if you will, without precedent?
Look, I know half a dozen guys around here lead with their sentimentality and will think this is a swell idea, but how about logic and reason?
I've said this before, but here goes again: I spent all of my radio career on the AM band, yet knew in my heart and soul that AM was finished as long as thirty years ago.
It's over, guys, and it ain't going to make a comeback. I know with certainty that one whose name is so revered here, the late and beloved George Gilbert, was aware of AM being passe back when the calendar turned 1980.
So help me, I am not trying to kick up a an argument here, but would you invest what's left of your 401(k) on an AM music operation? Discussion? Explanation? Speculation?
Despite that, Merry Christmas!
P.S. Christmas music? Sure, get all I want off my sat radio.
