Standards on 98.3?

One of these days I'll sit in the parking lot and waste gas or my battery in order to listen long enough to hear a station ID.

I only hear this station in one place. I'm on the south end of the signal range for Country Legends 98.3. While going down a long hill on the south end of town, going south, I hear a gospel station which I have determined is WLJI Columbia. Farther to the east, I am going down a long hill going east, although the creek that runs under the street is running southwest. I am in the parking lot of a building which apparently somehow reflects the signal, which I cannot hear when I am going down the hill. It's only when I go into the parking lot and the building is blocking whatever might be coming from the east.

I know about Surf in Wilmington, but for some reason I've never picked it up. Sometimes I hear Q-98.

WLGT/Washington is gospel as well. It's some satellite format. I think WDLZ/Murfeesboro plays some kind of lite rock -- maybe this is what you are hearing?

Wilmington's 98.3 is alternative rock.

probrably WDLZ in murfreesboro...good luck on getting an ID from them...minus the TOH ID's..when first media purchased it they put a ton of money getting them back on the air after their tower collapsed, the transmitters are brand new......but the studios are the barely working hand-me-downs during the mainquad era from the roanoke rapids cluster after they renovated.

And if I'm not mistaken First Media had to pay some fines too for WDLZ that I believe were left over from something or maybe that was another station we purchased. So that may be the reason the studios weren't completed. That said I think we moved the studios to Roanoke Rapids. I remember the old Mainquad days I worked for them as well.

I went to Murfreesboro in 1993 and bought their country 45 and Lp library.
The station was in bad shape then. Two guys owned and ran it and one of them died. Then Gordon Finney bought it and I guess Earl Tellega(spell) was there and Gordon's crew cleaned the place up.It looked like a tornado hit it.Gordon and Amy
then tried to kill Shaun Matthews running him back and forth to Murph. It became the SAY Team 98.5,98.3. and eventually they rigged it so you could run 98.3 from Rocky Mount and it went to a Soul Gold format for a while. This would have been maybe 1998-2001???.I got some cool country 45's to fill some holes in my library. It was alot of stuff that will never see the light of day on CD.I got em for a quarter a piece including sleeves.

yeah the AM caught some fines for running over power (by 70 watts IIRC)...before first media got it..it would run an open carrier at night.......WWDR was getting DX reports all over the east coast and midwest..LOL ...but the operations is in fact still ran from murfreesboro....IIRC...Earl does most of the work and sales for WDLZ and Bob Ward does WWDR.....there is a beach music show that is ran live from WDLZ and simulcast on WTRG in roanoke rapids every saturday.

remember when the calls were WBCG???, I also remember the old reel to reel automation system being in place and IN USE as late as 1996?.

yeah, the AM side, WWDR, aka...worlds worst da__..radio.........WYCM...I still remeber an announcer saying "This is AM 1080 WYA...I mean..WYCM Murfreesboro.."

NE-NC has seen some rough patches when it swings around the radio dial.....murfreesboro, ahoskie, windsor..edenton..elizabeth city...theres tons of stories there from once great radio stations.

WWDR for a period of time was ran by the late Rev Wiggins. Sometime around 1987 he purchased part of WRCS along with another pastor based out of SC, built a home next to the studios and started operation there...the stations down in ahoskie wasn't much better off than murfreesboro at the time, mufreesboro with a gates yard II and ahoskie with a old tube board...there was a great bunch of dedicated people there keeping it going (including wiggins himself), or something along those lines...my memory is a bit fuzzy, I know wiggins ran WWDR for a while...I wasn't even 10 years old when all of this was going on.

allen...look into WRCS as far as selling out their old country music library..around 2002 the building got a major cleanup and a lot of the stuff that had accumulated over the years, including lots of boxes of old Drake-Chenault reels..I snagged a reels..one of which has airchecks and commercials from 1982..but I know most of the music is still there.

This won't work for two reasons. I only hear the station when the building is east of the car. That rules out Murfreesboro.

Also, lite rock is not standards. Later in the day I'm hearing the likes of James Taylor and Paul Simon and Gordon Lightfoot, but that may not even be the same station. But at 9 in the morning, big bands.

Since the creek runs south and there's an alley, I don't think it could possibly be east of where I am.
