STAR 101.5 - The REAL REAL Story

I'm really surprised with all of the posts that no one thought about the January debut of The Ty Pennington Show (the guy from Extreme Home Makeover). A lot of Hot AC and AC stations across the country have been promoting the fact that Ty is coming to their station. Given the fact that his picture is in their "tease" it make logical sense. Plus, given the KOMO TV connection, it just makes sense.

OR, they will go Spanish because they fear the wrath of KLSY.

STAR 101.5 is not bringing in Ty, they aren't going Hispanic,
this is just a tired old stunt. KBKS tried the tired old
Fugitive stunt. STAR and KBKS are run by a couple of old PD's
with very few tricks left. STAR would be better off scrapping
their morning show and focusing on new music like MIX who is killing
them. KBKS would be better off scrapping their morning show and focusing adding some rhythmic product or going all rhythmic against KUBE. KBKS
needs some imaging that isn't from the 90's and STAR needs to fix their
station signal, which sounds more like a CD or I-POD that a full radio
station. Instead of fixing their stations these old warhorse PD's do
stunts. Sure KBKS has teen listeners and yes KPLZ does well in a small
25-54 female cell. But if they want to be real winners it takes more
that stunts. WOLF, JACK, MIX,KUBE, The New KISW are aggressive, smart radio
stations that are making their move against worn out stations like STAR, KBKS,
KZOK and KMPS. 2006 will be a year to watch. Who will win, you know my vote.
See ya STAR, KBKS, KMPS and KZOK: the end is near!!!!!!!!

Blah blah blah. I am boring myself just talking about these lame stations...

And we're getting bored of reading it.

If I had a dollar for every time someone said Star was changing formats, is washed up, etc., etc., I'd be wealthier than Kent Phillips is.

Bottom line: They *bill* a LOT of money. They're stable.

I wouldn't call the PD at KBKS "old"...and I'm sure he and his staff have plenty of "tricks," as you put it, up their sleeve...and yeah, KMPS is just sooooo worn out that it is consistently number one in the market, and I'm willing to bet that for a while at least, it will continue to be.

Why "fix" what ain't broke?

I still think the only thing that will change is the Kent & Alan promotion. They are going to something home improvement related. I never did get the computer give-away thing. STAR's listeners just don't seem like the techno savvy type. I'd be suprised if very many of those computers made it out of the box before the listener gave it to a favorite nephew. Something home improvement or redecorating in theme is much more in-line with their listeners. 25-34 Females love those TV shows.

It's not really a good idea in this day and age to dismiss ANY demographic as not being the "techno savvy type."

25-24 Females use the camera phone, the love the internet, are pretty likely to have an i-pod, which they listen to while working on those wiz-bang exermazise thingies at the gym.

I'm not trying to piss you off dude, but I just think that comment was WAY off the mark.

Precisely my point. The Star P1 is a fiercely loyal listener - probably moreso there than at any other station in the country.

I think the computer promotion was at its best when PCs were $2000 or $1000 - but now that you can get one at Wal-Mart for $300, giving a computer away doesn't have the impact it used to.

Enough tricks to remain ahead of you, Mr. West.

In what demo? Deaf people living in a zip code ending in an odd number?

Based on what? Their morning show, broken as it is, still does better than KLSY's morning show.

Ever think that KBKS is targeting to people who grew up on radio in the 90s? You just paid them a compliment, Einstein.

And have you ever thought that KPLZ's audio processing is exactly what they want to do, genius? You just paid THEM a compliment too.

Stunts that give them more listeners than your station, Mr. West.

A 'small 25 to 54 female cell?' Which one is that? Whoevr you're talking about, their rating are good enough to remain a top five biller OVERALL...higher within the 25 to 54 women.

> But if they want to be real winners it

It takes ratings and sellable demos. Neither of which KLSY has.

With that thinking, it's no wonder your station is in the dumper.

Right. We'll see if KLSY keeps their PD through 2006.

Some of say the same thing about your posts.
