Man, this station went from a top 40 station to a wanna be hip hop station. The jocks sound bored out of their mind. What happened to them having fun jocks and a better selection of music???? You can tell these poor guys were told "It's all about the music so keep what you say short and sweet".

Star 101.9...what happened?

I am calling 'troll' since this is your first post, but I will bite.
You obviously do not live here. The talk on the streets and number of places that you hear our radio station has increased dramatically. It has consistency and a format now, where before, it was some hybrid CHR/Hot AC jumbled mess.
And one of the top comments I get is 'You guys sound so energetic'.... That throws a wrench in the 'fun jocks' comment.
We play hit music. It just so happens that those 'hip hop' songs you are referring to are in the Top 15 on the CHR chart. Do you even know what young white people listen to these days?

Oh Chris…Really? The girl who responded also made her first post on this trend. This is a site for radio people. Very few “Fans” read anything about their favorite station on here. So this girl with 20 friends is clearly someone you know, someone who either works at Star or knows someone who works at Star, or it was simply you. Fans or “Haters” of the station will post remarks on the News Star website which by the way I notice, no one is talking on there about Star 101.9. Before you came along, people had a lot to say about Star. When they were doing great promotions or if their jocks said or did something crazy on air…people were talking. What have they said about your station? I have seen nothing. As far as “The word on the street” well I have not heard anything close to what you said. It’s easy to hear how great your station is when you ask the right people. Without telling them who you are try talking to a complete stranger and see what they say. If you don’t hear the answer you are looking for its ok, it means you have something to work on. A program director who thinks his station is perfect is not only delusional but lazy. You should always reach for a higher standard. Challenge the other stations in your market to keep up with you. Do it differently than everyone else and for God’s sake don’t listen to a consultant from somewhere far away. But hey things are tough out there. I understand you fear for your job. You won’t shake the boat. Most programmers do that. Most jocks do that…the PD’s and jocks that DARE to challenge that way of thinking…move on to BIGGER and better things. Even though it saddens them to watch someone who doesn’t really care kill the thing they worked so hard to build.
I will close THIS post with first a question. What is a Troll? I am sure you meant something other than a small scary creature. Second, I will answer your question from another trend. The reason why this board has been so quiet…is because the people of Monroe are bored with their local radio. You do nothing that grabs them. If you are just going to “play the hits”, get ready to lose to your competition and no it’s not another FM station. It’s the IPOD, XM Radio and the smart phone. Radio personalities made radio what it is. Somewhere along the way some bozo with a piece of paper he calls “Research” fooled radio big wigs to think differently. You claim you won’t respond back until I say who I am. You know however that is not true. You will sit there, read this a few times, argue with yourself on if you should or shouldn’t respond and then finally you will type away. I don’t work for any station in the market. I do listen to all of them. The people of the Ark-La-Miss are GREAT radio listeners. They want someone who gets their attention. Make them laugh, make them think, inspire them and entertain them. It has been done before and I know…you want to know how. Here’s a hint, don’t listen to research or someone giving orders from far away. Get someone in there who has passion and then….you will win. BIG!!
