Star 94.1 - Channel 8, oh the irony!

Imagine my suprise this evening to find a link to KFMB TV 8 at the bottom of the Star94.1 website. Probably just a coincidence...

Or is it?
I'll say this, if I were running KFMB FM 100.7, I'd run over to the sales department or maybe have a little chat with the TV guys!

No big deal. When I lived in Atlanta, I used to see commercials for WSB-AM and FM on stations other than WSB-TV. I would also hear TV ads for WSB-TV on other radio stations not named WSB-FM and AM.
______________

It's sweeps, and $$$ is $$$.
______________

Yes, but!

IMHO, this is a very different situation.
You've got KFMB FM which was Star, and the cross town rival which IS now Star, and both Jack FM and Star have links to KFMB.

I dunno, this just doesn't smell good.

Oh, puhleeze.

Guess what? You'll also hear ads for News 8 on 94.1. Why? Because it's sweeps!

If KFMB-TV has a link at the bottom of Star's web site, it's either because they paid for it, or it's because it was thrown in for free when they bought the sweeps ad schedule.

Re: Yes, but!

Look, I didn't just fall off the turnip truck, I know full well that it's not unusual for cross promoions on radio stations from non-owned TV stations, and even from sister TV stations of the competition, and it's nothing new in San Diego.

All I am saying is that the 94.1 vs. 100.7 battle has been one of the biggest in the country. And as a result, I think that this situation is unique. I remember when I was working at Q106 (the grandaddy of 94.1), and KFMB TV wouldn't even come out to cover promotions we did because of the fight between us and Star100.7 at the time. It was NASTY, I remember, I was there!

You guys kill me knocking yourself out over everything
KFMB-FM and 94.1. It's played out. Johnson saw the light
& got out of that format. 94.1 will do well as long as
Jeff & Jer stay there. How utterly provincial & witless
to keep beating that dead horse. Q106 still ain't coming
back. TV: John is right they will do anything for sweeps
week.

Antennas tied to cash registers

G-Dawg, I don't understand your point. I bet if the satellite services show up on the doorstep of ANY radio station in Sandy Eggo and drop a bucket of money .. they'll take it.

Bucket of money ... yeah, that's it. Ray Lucia is 'back' on the KFMB-AM website ... hmmm ... I smell $$$ there.

Hmmmm. Kyle Kraska is pumpin' his bag of tricks on Rock 105.3 during the Chargers' broadcast.

... hmmmm .... I smell $$$ there.

Hank Bauer is dropping words about a popular restaurant on stations in the market.

... hmmmmm .... I smell $$$ there.

So, I bet there's MONEY in IT to MAKE a LIVING. Broadcast stations are an antenna hooked to a cash register. As long as the till is full and there is positive cash flow, expect the same to happen.

>Look, I didn't fall of the turnip truck

And here I thought there were cotton trucks in Lubbock ... Here's hoping for the important, yet misunderstood rutobega. The other vegetable.

Because the moderators have signed a treaty with NAFTA, I must print:

Re: Antennas tied to cash registers

You're right, of course...
It's got to do with money.

I love this:

You MUST be kidding. Tracy Johnson had nothing to do with the format swap except pushing the button when his corporate masters told him to. Jack was not his choice - just his duty.

And futhermore, if 94-1 is the grandkid of Q106, then a LOT has been lost in the DNA. MYI is not even close to what the "Q" was...especially before the Par nightmare.

Jojo,

Forgive me, I should explain what I meant:

Q106's airstaff returned to the air on what was Mix95.7, which I thought was a slightly more AC version of Q106. Mix stayed around until it became 80's and was under the Clear-channel arm. Then, it went off for a month, and that air staff ended up on My94.1, which (IMHO) was re-tooled Mix.
But by that time, indeed, it sounded little like the high-energy station that Q106 had been.

That's all I meant by that. But I want to be clear, in no way am I saying that 94.1 IS Q106! I agree with Jojo, it is NOT EVEN CLOSE!

Garrett, I agree with others' sentiments that you are making far too much of this.

Re: Yes, but!

Well since you have inside information why don't you share
it with us. The fact is Jack is trending higher than
the previous numbers that Star was receiving. Will
they take a major hit from the lost of their former
glory boys Jeff & Jer? Of course. Also, how is 94-1
related to Q106? I don't see it. Just another CC
vacuform job with the glory boys riding the buddy
seat.

I know that you agree with others that I am making far too much of this, and I already HAVE dropped it.

Why is this upsetting so many people, anyway?
It was just an opinion/observation?
