Star 94-1 Grows With Women

Star 94-1 is of course targeted to women. The most recent numbers I've seen indicate that about 60% of their listeners are female.

In the female "money demo" of Women 25-54 from May to June, the station went from:

Morning Drive - Tied for #4 to tied for #4
Midday - #2 to #1 (Congratulations, Heather)
Afternoon Drive - #8 to #4
Overall Mon-Sun, 6AM-Midnight - #5 to #3

Evenings and weekends are not as impressive; they are #8 and #6, respectively.

Jeff & Jenn are probably the catalyst for this growth. Their show has been steadily getting better. I can tell from listening that the PD, Tony Lorino, has a terrific understanding of formatics and listener psychology. They obviously are not willing to invest much on evenings, which of course are a far less important daypart. Adam Bomb is the best in the market in evenings, IMHO, in the CHR/Hot AC space.

Drex, Cassiday & Tingle, though under strict limits in afternoon drive, lead the station (and most of the market) in creativity. I wonder if morning "board operator" Marino will move back to afternoon drive when the current show's contracts end.

I've heard through the grapevine that they'll be kept on the station as long as their ratings are almost even or better with Jeff and Jenn. At this point, all signs point toward that being the case.

The station gives them zero promotion, mentioning only Jeff & Jenn and then 10 songs in a row. Maybe they'll remain, but of course that's a 2-way street. They have to want to stay, and given the dearth of morning show slots for hire, maybe they will.

So I don't normally listen to CHR music. Much more into Alternative, however, a friend came into town over the weekend and I wanted to him to feel like home so it was Q100, Power 96.1 and Star 94.1 all weekend long. I honestly have trouble figuring out where Star 94 and Q100 differ. Power is so incredibly repetitive. I get it - CHR is repetitive but the same song every 45 minutes? If I have to hear Adel again I'm going to scream.
