Star 94-1 has added Zakk Babb as its new 8PM-midnight personality. (Well, at least it's not your everyday radio name.) According to Rodney Ho's AJC blog, Zakk came from 93.9 The Beat in Indianapolis.
The move pleasantly surprised me because Entercom has not been investing in that daypart. Donny Michaels was doing 7PM-midnight when Entercom took over. He was cut in a layoff several weeks later. Donny was followed by a voice-tracked Michael Chase (Music & Promotions Director) and then an innocuous-sounding jock named Andrew Hart. Recently, PM driver Marino's shift was extended from 3-7PM to 3-8PM, suggesting how PD Tony Lorino felt about Andrew's sound. I wonder whether the 7PM hour will be added to Zakk's shift if Star management is happy with him.
Star seems to have let go its weekend part-timers, possibly freeing up dollars for nights. The station's ratings of course have been on the upswing.
