New Star 94 PD Tony Lorino has been in the building for exactly 5 days, and I'm already noticing a number of formatics changes.
Things I've noticed are 1)They dropped the "90's to Now" positioner, 2)Multiple dead segues per hour, 3)Much shortened sweepers and jingles between songs, 4)The Star 94 musical sig between 2 songs, and 5)the Star 94 musical sig between a song and a stopset. (Where's the new top-of-the-hour ID?)
I have opinions on these things, but I'm going to wait for the finished product before expressing them.
But one thing seems obvious already: Lorino's strategy is for Star 94 to be perceived as playing the most music of any station.
They have, as others have mentioned, dropped the "Big 90's Weekend," which served its purpose of quickly increasing ratings before it burned out. Star's music is more current now than it had been so the dropping of the 90's positioner and weekend makes sense.
