Star 94 Participating in National Contest

When Entercom first took over Star 94 and installed Tony Lorino as PD, I had high hopes for the station. The top-notch staff remained, and Lorino started making clever formatics adjustments. The music became more current and improved overall.

But then came the cutback, and Star really lost something just as they were building. Donny Michaels may not have been the best in terms of pure jock talent, but he brought a lot of personality to the evening slot. The personality and excitement are gone with Michael Chase voicetracking the slot. Admittedly, evenings are not the most important daypart, but quality has decreased markedly in those hours. And as Market Manager Mike Fowler said, Hot AC listeners aren't there for news. But in this rare case, I thought Rob Stadler added a lot to mornings although the morning show is solid on its own.

After heavily promoting that a chance to win $1,000 was coming 4 times a day, the contest is here, and it's a national Entercom contest on many stations. So Entercom is giving away $4,000 a day total over numerous stations across the U.S. a la iHeart.

I'm just a little disappointed in what I thought might turn into a top-notch station.

EnterCom Probably Still Reeling...

from the $16.5M payout in the Hold Your Wee for a Wii contest that went awry at the Sacramento station . The corporate office has decided to keep tighter control of the stations and hence the national contest rather than local contests.
