Star 94 puts $600K into "Mess" promos

That's double what my ENTIRE YEAR'S PROMOTION budget was when I had one to manage.

At least they are willing to spend on marketing, which is much better than some other stations as of late.

I had a 1970 Ford Maverick when I was 19. I put a new stereo in it. Put new tires and rims on it. Had it painted a nice shade of deep green. Re-did the upholstery. Gave it a good tune-up. When all was said and done, I still had a 1970 Ford Maverick.

B98.5 can spend about $600 on promotions when S & V return on July 1 and attract a bigger audience than Star will achieve with $600K.

This is staggering stupidity by LF execs and local programmers. You need to create a high-quality product first, before inviting people to sample it! It's promotional money wasted when anybody over the age of 16 samples the Morning Mess and pulls a muscle trying to push another pre-set button too fast!

Gotta thank Citadel, LF and Cumulus for motivating former listeners to learn how to change their radio pre-sets!

I just heard a few minutes of this show the other day. They were interviewing Tom from Myspace, and let's just say it didn't go smoothly. My favorite part besides one of them not knowing that Tom was still involved in the myspace operations was the clueless chick pointing out that he was worth 250M and then openly asking why he wasn't married.

Hmmm. Better question: WHY would HE BE MARRIED??

Yeah I would at least think they would wait until phone pranks on the 20's was discontinued. That show is hardly polished and not close to it's coming out party but time is short with S&V just a few short months away.

THIS JUST IN: Lincoln Financial puts $600,000 into a toliet and flushes the money down it.

They hired an outside PR firm, KC Public Relations (an all-female run firm - so it appears they are in tune with Star's demographics). According to their website they have worked with 99X, Q100, and The Zone in the past.

Look forward to hearing the sounds of "Lite 94.1" pretty soon.

It's a truly sad day when I have to admit it would have been a lot better to have sold this station to Crumulus.
Wow.

But the Maverick was a kick a(& ride! Not great in styling, but I'd take it over some of today's cars in its class. Plus, you could drive that sucker to hell and back and it would still run! Try that with a Focus!

So the Morning Mess has been downgraded analogically from the "Maverick of Morning Radio" to the "Focus of Morning Radio?" Alas, they are much closer to the "Little Red Radio Flyer of Morning Radio," and might be regressing to the "Big Wheel of Morning Radio."

Talk about beating an analogy to death! :-[ Sheesh! I apologize! Don't revoke my membership!

According to my STAR 94 Mole, management expects them to be an acquired taste. They believe the show will grow and in 5 years the Morning Mess will be the next big thing in Atlanta radio. By then, they think The Bert Show will have fizzled out they will have established a loyal following. I'm not saying it won't happen, but 5 years seems like a long trial period to me. I can't think of many other shows that took 5 years to see results, but I could be missing some. Who knows? Maybe they'll find their place in the market. Thoughts??

Speaking from a purely investment perspective, this sounds a little nuts. How'd you like to explain quarterly revenue figures with the line "OK, we're doing horribly right now, but we believe that if we can just hang on for another 4 years and 9 months then things will really turn around!"

I'm hearing (again, just hearing) that Star doesn't have to report quarterly numbers anymore. Something to do with being categorized as an investment by Lincoln. I'm not exactly sure how that works, but apparently they have a little more breathing room as a result...???
