Star 94 Rumours

If Infinity acquires Star 94 (hot AC/CHR) from Jeff-Pilot, then they'll get rid of the AAA of Dave and put Jack on 92.9, and sound more like Cincinnati's hot AC/CHR Q102 (which mixes pop/rock/R&B/AAA to its playlist). Star 94 could mix in more Dave tunes.
Edited by PassDutch on 07/30/05 04:40 AM.

And where did you get this from?

I heard a new Bon Jovi track on Star last night...so it wouldn't be a stretch.

What adult-leaning CHR or hot AC doesn't play Bon Jovi, especially the newer or more recent material like "It's My Life" and "Misunderstood"?
______________

and who wouldn't want to copy the success of Q102 Cincinnati?
jeeez...what a textbook example of getting your butt kicked.

I think Star 94 is doing too well now to alter anything about its format. How many stations are there out there like Star 94? When I lived in Memphis back in the 80s, FM100 was an adult-leaning CHR/POP station. Since then I have never encountered another station like it until Star. I travel a great deal and have never heard a station quite like Star that is registered as CHR/POP but plays all non-urban like songs on the top 40 chart and leans into the hot AC chart. Even the countdown shows on the weekend reflect the teeter-totter of formats. AT40 plays the pop chart on Saturday nights and Rick Dees plays the hot AC chart version of his countdown show on Sunday nights. If you notice, Star fills in all of the harder more urban tracks on the countdown shows with a pre-recorded "special request" song.

I'm all about an Adult leaning CHR playing Bon Jovi...but at night? How does that relate to the night demo?

Infinity acquiring Star? Let it go. Also, why on earth would Infinity want to screw up a market format leader (Star) by tweaking it's music and adding titles from Dave, copying one of their more poorly performing stations in a smaller market, Q102/Cinci? Laughable. This one ranks up there with the person posting on every board on Radio-Info stating "(insert Infinity station calls here) was flipping to Spanish." Not real, entertainment value only.

And on a side note: you really should lay off that $hit.

I can say with complete confidence it is a FAR stretch.

It is pretty realtive to the night demo. Some people are into Bon Jovi and if nothing else it turns new listeners onto them. Taking a risk can sometimes backfire. But in this instance, I would think it's a brilliant move.

Of course it is...of course. They could broadcast dead-air for a week and you'd claim "yet another nail...".

I think even McCoy would question "It's My Life"
on Star. This did not happen - that song, exactly...
did it?

Nope. Its a new record. "Have a Nice Day". Played 37 times since the 18th on Star and the only Bon Jovi song played on Star this year.

Other stations opening up Bon Jovi to today's hip young teens (in order of spins)...WPLJ-FM New York, WZPL-FM Indianapolis, WRFY-FM Reading , WBMX-FM Boston, KMXP-FM Phoenix (all Hot ACs). The CHR with the highest number of spins on this is...gasp...Star. Other CHRs playing this song-spins: WIXX-FM Green Bay, WI-26, WXKS-FM Boston-17, WHTZ-FM New York-16.

Although Bon Jovi could fart in the New York metro and get spins. Hell, I'd listen. I loves me some Bon Jovi.

That makes sense. Amazing that Star leads on this one. Maybe
this is why Q was "down." Just couldn't figure out why Star
would be trying to play a song as old as the station itself.

No, you've forgotten the most important question... how will this affect Q100?

Re: Bon Jovi data on Star

"Just couldn't figure out why Star

I don't follow you. "A song as old as the station itself?" It's a NEW Bon Jovi song. The album will be released in September. And, if I recall correctly, Star has done some pretty cool stuff with Bon Jovi/John Bon Jovi in the past.

WTF are you talking about? I am not the one who mentioned nails. Check your facts BEFORE you speak!
