Star 94's Future

After today's announcement about Vikki Locke's resignation, and a new owner coming, I think Star 94 will ceast to exist this time next year, in name and possibly in format.

Either rap and urban songs will be coming once a new owner takes over - or an outright format flip (hot AC possibly). The key to this thing is 1) Who gets 94.1 and 2) Whether Q100 is on 99.7 when everything goes down.

Either way - Star is dead, and with other rumored changes, the Atlanta radio landscape will once again be dramatically changed (and this time..Clear Channel will have nothing to do with it).

What about if Dickey bout the LF stations, moved sports onto FM, and switched WQXI to a format similar to what WAKY has just done in Lousiville using old jocks and jingle packages. Of course that will never happen.

When did that happen? Is WAKY (one of my favorite calls since the AM top 40 in the 60's/70's with Bill Bailey) a Cumulus station? Are they Classic Hits or mainstream oldies?

Yes, Vikki Locke is retiring so that must mean Star 94 will cease to exist in a year. LOL! This just in, she's the co-host on the morning show. Life will go on.

Any new owner will have to change the call letters, station slogan, heck, even play rap music. The station is one of the top billing stations in America in the Top 40 format, so blowing the station up makes absolutely NO business sense.

Wishful thinking on your part, I'd say.

Just because Star's future is changing doesn't mean drastic changes will be made. Radiochic made a good point about Star's revenue. Could Star shift younger? Technically, they can, but if the station were to shift more towards a younger demo, you'll begin to blow the adults off (and revenue) to other stations like B98.5 and the River. I'm also sure that if research shows they can make just as much or even more money by going younger, it'll be done.

Though I wasn't a fan of S&V's show, I hate it for Vikki to have to leave in such a manner. I wish her all the best of health.

Has anyone heard what Steve's plans are? Will they pair him up with someone else, or is he on the way out as well?

Here's some thoughts:
-STAR prints money, you would all lke its rev share in Atlanta
-Anyone who buys it will see that value, and only fix what needs fixing. Blowing up its calls and switching positions is not a biz plan...unless your Clear Channel
-Identity issue:sure, Steve and Vickie IMO were a disconnect against its music image. Great once, not now.
-Steve will probably not be renewed

The learned poster is correct on all accounts.

Look for Cindy and Ray to move easily into AM drive, providing Cindy can stay away from the sauce and driving.

In all seriousness, the Vicky Locke held one job in radio for 17 years. That alone makes her bulletproof. I hope she enjoys her retirement and if she decide she wants to come back, there will be a loyal following for her.

One of the FM Oldies stations in Louisville got the rights to the WAKY call letters and reimaged a month or so ago. It's not really Mainstream Oldies or Classic Hits. It's a mix of both with local hits mixed in from as far back as the late 50's. It's sort of like what they did with WSAI but the time span is longer going way into the 70's.
