Anyone with a take on Star 97.5.? Sounds to me like smooth jazz
meets Starbucks standards. A bit too laid back for me.

Maybe you're not listening to the same station I am...

More narrowly focused than a typical nostalgia station, this one SWINGS!

Many of these oldies are like fresh air...and it's a welcome change on my radio. (Another martini, please...)

It's a niche player, but with a very affluent audience than what you'd expect for a station playing Sinatra and Bennett. Nurse Jeff and I wonder if the people in the twin cities of Dewey and Humbolt (cities of license) enjoy it as much as we do in Buckeye?

People in the Prescott region do enjoy the music. It would be better if the tunes and artists were identified more frequently.

Question: Does "Fred, Chuck and Charlie" still license repeaters for the originating frequency? There are pockets on this side of Crown King that need to have the 97.5 signal beefed up. Of course it was solid when the signal originated in Kachina Village.

Yes, the FCC would no doubt consider on-channel boosters for the shadowed areas. That seems to include chunks of Prescott and Prescott Valley, being shadowed by Mts. Union, Tritle and Spruce, most likely. Translators probably wouldn't fly, due to the lack of workable frequencies.

Well, I know its in vogue to discuss martinis and swing. I
If you think hipsters sit around and knock down martinis
in their tiki huts listening to Rod Stewart butcher
songs that he can't possibly sing, or find Michael
Buble cool, forget about it. Don't get me wrong, I
hope they do well. Swing, blues, jazz, jump, standards
is truly an art form. I just think real swing-jump
music will find a better home on the Internet or
Satellite. The non-edgy Starbucks approach is iffy
at best with Arbitron and especially due to ad buyers
ignoring 50+ listeners. Instead of swing I would
identify Star as Modern Standards.

Maybe so, Magic... But I like it because it's markedly different from anything else on the radio. I've heard several Nat King Cole songs I never played in my days in the nostalgia format some 20 years ago; and I'm a big Nat fan. Rod Stewart singing standards is merely a novelty to my ears, and not my favorite artist to hear on this station.

I'm familiar with the PD's work in AM top 40 back in the day...He's done a few other formats, too...ALL with very good success. And I understand Mr. Trumper is a heckuva good guy to work for, and superb at selling. If any station can make a go of this, even on a rimshot, they will! It's fun to listen and watch what happens next.

One for the road? No thanks, I'm driving the 101...
