I said that I was glad to see something different and I wish them success. I said they would probably have a difficult time revenue wise.

The only thing I don't like about it so far are the CHEESY liners.

I don't recall anyone trashing Star 97-5. By the way, since when is a singers and standards type format "NEW"?

Glad to hear that you like it. I agree that it's refreshing to hear a new station that programs something not found elsewhere on the FM dial.

My previous statements about their financial survival were very similar to yours. Most radio ad dollars come from agencies. Most buyers are 25 year old twits with zero common sense. They couldn't buy pantyhose without running a Tapscan.

Star better have a strong, seasoned sales force that actually knows how to sell radio vs. taking an order. That will be the key to their survival.

I also said that the advertising world thinks 55+ are curmudgeonly. The US population is shifting and that's a fact. Many 55-65 live more active lifestyles than 45-55 did 20 years ago. People are living longer, healthier lives. The corporate advertising world better get over itself or they will find themselves in a world of hurt.

I fear that Star 97-5 will have a difficult time because 1. Media buyers can't relate and 2. It won't be a powerhouse 25-54. I wish them much success, especially since they're not owened by Cheap Channel.

Something in lower-case might be nice.

But only with a light rotation of the individual letters of the alphabet.

Do your friends also shout?

The Towers Mountain signals are spotty east of Squaw Peak (oops, I meant Piestawa Peak) due to multipath. This may make it harder for the affluent audience in Paradise Valley to listen. And the Sun Lakes area may be hard-pressed if there is interference from 97.5 in Tucson in that area (just like how people complain that 102.1 Prescott gets drowned out by the station on the same frequency from Tucson).

On the other hand, the 97.5 signal BOOMS into the Sun Cities.

NO, THEY ONLY LOUNGE AROUND.

IS A NORTH MOUNTAIN BOOSTER POSSIBLE FOR 97.5 ?

Once and for all...

Knock off the all-caps posts.

Re: So, What do we call this new format?

MarkAndrews, I couldn't agree with you more. This is different and if you want something a little more upbeat than KYOT, this is it. Also, I know some very affluent folks, who are not grandparents, who really enjoy the Diana Krall and Michael Buble.

Just because something is not for the 18+ demo and is not performed by somebody with their pants around their ankles does it mean that it is for Gramps and the Sun City crowd. In fact, my father, who is a grandfather, can't stand this music. I, on the other hand (on the very low end of 35+), love it and I will be setting a button for it. Cheers...
