"Trumper Returns To Radio With New Star Format In Phoenix
After an absence of four years, Jeff Trumper, CEO of Trumper Communications, is back in the radio business with the debut of Star 97.5 (KRZS-FM) Phoenix.
Trumper previously owned and operated station groups in Minneapolis; Portland, OR; Albuquerque; Charlotte; Salt Lake City; Decatur, IL; and Lexington, KY. The last Trumper group in Salt Lake City was sold to Clear Channel in 2001.
With Star 97.5, Trumper will be venturing into a new format featuring a contemporary blend of pop, jazz, swing, blues, and standards. “We are very excited about this venture,” said Trumper. “We have been looking for an opportunity, and I believe this is the right station, the right format and the right market.”
Star 97.5's playlist will include the latest from Carly Simon, Rod Stewart and Michael Buble mixed in with artists like Tony Bennett, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald and Ray Charles and new standards from Diana Krall, Harry Connick, Jr., Steve Tyrell, Peter Cincotti, Norah Jones, and others.
According to Trumper, who will also be serving as GM, the station is filling a void on the Phoenix radio dial. “No one else in Phoenix is playing this music, yet the demand is clearly there. When you have new releases from Carly Simon and Rod Stewart debuting in the top 10, Tony Bennett appearing on MTV and selling out concert venues coast to coast, and artists like Queen Latifah and Sting recording standards, you have a musical genre with broad appeal and a large audience.”
