Thats the question I'm asking. Iceman07 posted that Apex's Gospel HEAVEN 1390 AM is now playing Classic Soul, but still Gospel on weekends. I never understand why Apex bought HEAVEN 1390 from Citadel? Most markets now have full power FM Gospel stations and few AM stations. Competition from GOSPEL 106.3/WJNI must be making more money than HEAVEN 1390. Apex must be doing research and getting prepared for 2009. Classic Soul can actualy be a winner on HEAVEN 1390. Most of the listeners are more than likely 35 and older. The same listeners that grew up listening to soul music on POWER 73 (WPAL-AM 730). Hopefully, they go 24/7 with the format. It will be nice if they could grab Frankie the Big Bopper from MAGIC 107.3 as he was an original WPAL-AM dj.
As for STAR 99.7, they aren't going any where. However, STAR 99.7 could be getting ready to add Hip-Hop flipping to Urban Contemp? Remind you most Urban and Urban AC stations already play the same new and hit R&B, but the Urban AC don't touch Hip-Hop and the Urbans don't touch Classic Soul. Could that be the reason that Classic Soul music is going on HEAVEN 1390 and being advertised on STAR 99.7??? Maybe STAR 99.7 is going to go head on with Z93???
