Star 99's approach to the overnights is absurd

WEBE 108, like it or hate it, runs John Tesch until the morning show. Not the best choice, but understandable they don't feel the need for an overnight host. Star 99 however makes no sense. They run Delilah from midnight to 3am. At 3am however they return to local programming with overnight host Matt Tansley who comes in for 2 hours before the morning show. It makes no sense to have Tansley come in for a paltry two hours. If they don't want an overnight night the station should simply run Delilah until 5 before returning to local programming. Either that or they should end Delilah at midnight and have Matt Tansley take over at that time for a full-time overnight shift. I just don't get the reasoning as to why they feel the need to have an overnight host, but only part-time.

Seems like you're nitpicking a bit here.

I doubt he's live if he's only on for 2 hours.

Why do you say that? Maybe he works elsewhere in the building after 5am...

Hi PJ. I don't know if you have inside info but if you do maybe you can explain Sam Steven's reasoning. Delilah runs from 7 to midnight. Than at midnight they just filter back and replay her show for a few hours until 3. When WHUD ran Delilah they returned to local programming with their overnight host at midnight. Now that it's in New York WLTW runs Delilah from 8-1am and then their overnight host comes in for a full shift until 5. Do you understand the reasoning as to why Sam Stevens doesn't either just allow Delilah to run until the morning show like WEBE does with John Tesch, or have Tansley come in for a full overnighter at midnight? From a business standpoint the profit savings are likely marginal, and from an on-air standoff it's completely contradictory and illogical to split the overnight in half.

Is Connecticut radio this boring?

Matt is live on the air.

Can anybody say "Voice Tracked"? I know for former Star employees that middays are voicetracked and so are weekends so it would make more sense to VT a tiny two hour shift - who in their right mind would work for only two hours in the graveyard shift time?

Matt is live. Whenever he gives the time, its usually close to accurate, unlike a tracked break where the jock will give a generic estimate like its" a few minutes after the hour" instead of 2:13. I believe he board ops the delilah show from 12 on, and takes over at 3.

Perhaps he's live, but don't let the time checks fool you. If they break from the satellite at the top of an hour for his two hours it would be very, very easy to get accurate time check info off the scheduler and be able to do dead-on or nearly dead-on time checks.

Who in there right minds would pay someone to "board-op" a satellite? I'm 95%+ certain WEBE never board-op'ed Delilah and I know they run overnights with nobody on the board for John Tesh. It seems to be a waste of money to pay a body to sit there for it! I would think Cox would have a better way to do things, perhaps like having the jock on PLR have a status panel for what's going on with Star.

Trust me Matt is live. I wrap things up on the PLR side at 11:45 or so, which usually coincides with his arrival with some form of noxious fast food, which means I can smell his presence before I actually see him in the flesh. For all intents and purposes he is the overnight guy at STAR, minus 3 hours of on air time. This down time makes it very easy for us to dump our unwanted production on his lap, as a way for him to "pass the time".

That's one thing I never missed about getting out of overnights!

Not to beat a dead horse or anything but since I haven't gotten an answer Mike, is there a reason that he doesn't get those 3 hours of air-time, if you're at liberty to discuss that.

To be honest I dont know. We both work in the same building for the same company, but thats where the connection ends. 2 stations, 2 PD's, 2 different game plans

I think doing nights in New Haven is pretty commendable.

I think someone who crticizes another person for "doing nights in Milford" is just jealous .

Gee, you cant even post anything on here without getting criticism about it. Leave Mike alone he wasn't being egotistical at all. Wonder what gig kershner wishes he had..
