Star Adjusts the Music Again

Appears Star has shifted its playlist again toward something resembling straight AC … just this morning, they’ve played “Unwell” by Matchbox 20, “I Don’t Wanna Be” by Gavin DeGraw, “Too Sweet” by Hozier, “Drops of Jupiter” by Train, “Iris” by Goo Goo Dolls and “Only Wanna Be With You” by Hootie & the Blowfish.

They also appear to have dropped what was left of the harder-edged “Throwbacks” songs that were hanging on from the original Rhythmic AC format. Sweepers also mention Star is the “only place in Atlanta” to hear songs from the 80s and an additional promo is calling it “Atlanta’s Original Star 94.”

I wonder if is due to Kevin and Taylor as they have become the new star talent on the station they have no had in years. I have no clue what the morning show numbers are and how much Fish audience star gets in morning drive now. I doubt Carlos and Amy on K-LOVE 106.7 or Dan and Michelle on 104.7 Air One pull the audience that K&T got on the Fish.

Heck, there isn’t a single 80s song that’s been played since midnight today.

They’re playing a few songs that are even too “Hot” for a mainstream AC:
“Country Grammar” Nelly
“In Da Club” 50 Cent
“Thrift Shop” Macklemore

Looks like they’re moving to a gold-heavy Hot AC, like their KSWD in Seattle.

Yes, they're mixing in some AC/Hot AC titles but to me, it's nowhere near a format change...so far. Not sure what you're considering to be harder-edged throwbacks, but I just heard The Notorious B.I.G.

I think Star sorely needs a voice in middays. Can they not afford someone voice-tracked from an Audacy station in another market? I realize the station has strong personalities in the drivetimes but when I think of Star overall, I think of canned music.

"Atlanta's upbeat variety..." Reminds me of that Beavis and Butthead episode.... Beavis: This music is upbeat. Butthead: Yeah, makes me want to get up and beat it" lol
